Every month throughout the academic year the Staff Council randomly selects a staff member to celebrate in our Spotlight on Staff.  Our recipient for April 2013 is Sister Jodi Min.

Sister Jodi MinThe Spotlight on Staff this month shines on Sister Jodi Min of Campus Mission and Ministry.  Sr. Jodi can be found in the Mission and Ministry office where she works with students doing social justice programming, education, and other service activities. Anybody who drops in on Mission and Ministry will notice the students hanging out in the lounge.  This is an office where students feel comfortable and welcomed and Sr. Jodi contributes to this wonderful atmosphere of acceptance.  Many of you probably also associate Sr. Jodi with “Fair Trade Fridays” where students and Mission and Ministry staff promote all kinds of fair trade products including coffee and chocolate (yes!).

Here’s what Sr. Jodi had to say about her work here at Saint Mary’s:

How long have you been here at Saint Mary's?

I started working at Saint Mary's in August 2011, so this is my second academic year at the College.

Tell us a little about your job here.

My official title is Assistant Director of Lasallian Mission, which means that I am responsible for coordinating Social Justice programming, education, and activities that help our students to reach out to the Saint Mary's College campus community and the greater community at large.  I coordinate service immersion trips, assist with the Christian Service Internship program (now known as the Lasallian Service Internship program), oversee Catholic Relief Service activities (which includes the promotion of Fair Trade products), and raise awareness of various issues of injustice affecting our world today.

What do you enjoy the most/find most rewarding about your job.

The most rewarding part of my job is my day to day interaction with students.  I love when they drop in my office to visit and share about their lives.  I love accompanying them on service trips and seeing how they come alive when they reach out to others.  I love to witness how their service experiences change their lives and the way they view the world.  It makes everything I do worthwhile.

What do you enjoy most about the SMC Community/Campus?

I think what I appreciate most about Saint Mary's College is the foundation that the Christian Brothers charism provides for all of us who are working here.  The 5-core Lasallian principles are values that are important to my life and not just my job. How blessed am I that I can have both?

Outside of work, is there anything you'd like to share about your interests, hobbies, family, or volunteer work?

I am not sure if everyone on campus knows that I am a Dominican Sister of Oakford. Our congregation was founded in South Africa, so the majority of our Sisters and our Leadership resides there.  There are only 18 Oakford Dominicans in the United States (living in California and Arizona), so when you meet an Oakford in this country - it is a fairly rare event!

What would you like the SMC Community to know about you?

I think that is more than enough information about me for now.  If you want to know more, you can always come by the Mission & Ministry Center and visit me in my natural habitat!
