3/28/11- The Gaels were able to shake off a week of wet weather as they convincingly handled the Humboldt State Jacks by a score of 15-5 this past Saturday in Arcata, Ca. The Gaels (7-3, 3-0) tallied another conference victory while Humboldt (2-4, 2-3) was unable to gain rhythm against the Gaels. Saint Mary’s started off hot and never cooled down as they outpaced the Jacks on their home field. The 6 hour drive into Northern California didn’t seem to phase the Gaels as they scored 15 points, the fourth time this season they have reached at least 15 goals.
Leading the Gaels offensively was Daniel Podesta with 5 goals while Andrew Hax tended the goal with an impressive 10 saves on the day. Saint Mary’s was unable to play last weekend due to inclement weather, a match-up against Reno-Nevada, but showed no signs of rust as they pounded the Jacks with 42 shots on the day.
The Gaels move to 3-0 in conference play and hit the road again this weekend against U.C. Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs handed the Gaels their lone conference loss last season in Moraga, setting up another crucial game for the Gaels looking to set the record straight as they continue on towards their first regular season conference crown in school history.
