  Renaissance Notte in Piazza

  For a Renaissance Notte in Piazza (Night at the Court of the Medici), Saint Mary’s became Florence, the Court of Lorenzo de’ Medici, on Lorenzo’s birthday celebration.  Faculty members and students costumed as characters from different periods of the Renaissance converged in the Chapel for an authentic Renaissance experience of musical and dance performances.  Following the performance, participants and spectators alike were escorted to Dryden Hall to share in a celebration banquet including a fully-roasted pig, pasta, and tirimisu.

• State Legislators Meet With Students on Cal Grants

  State Senator Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, and Democratic Assemblymembers Susan Bonilla of Concord, Joan Buchanan of Alamo and Nancy Skinner of Berkeley met with Saint Mary's students, including student government leaders and Cal Grant recipients, to discuss the threat to Cal Grant funding in the current state budget and what Cal Grants had meant to SMC students. • Border Crossing

  What if you had to show I.D. just to get where you want to go? To raise awareness of the barriers and borders many people in the world face, Saint Mary's Mission & Ministry Center and other campus groups created a simulated "border crossing" on March 28 on the Chapel Plaza. Students, faculty and staff had to show a College I.D. card to pass through the "border." If they didn't have the proper "papers," they had to take the long way around. “This is the reality for some people every day,” said Sister Jodi Min, who helped organinze the event, which received attention from local and national press.
