Head baseball coach Jedd Soto, the school's third-winningest coach since 1968 received a three-year contract extension in September, keeping him under contract through the 2012 season.
"I am proud to be part of building a tradition of excellence on and off the baseball field each year, and look forward to the challenge of elevating our program to the next level," Soto says.
After six seasons, Soto has 135 career victories, and ranks third in wins at Saint Mary's since 1968. Soto's teams have finished .500 or better in three of his six years as head coach, and each of the last two seasons.
"The progress this program has had under his leadership has been impressive," says Athletic Director Mark Orr. "His ability to recruit and develop quality student-athletes is something I look forward to seeing him continue to do for years to come."
The men's basketball team will play in the inaugural 2009 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center on the campus of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in Honolulu. Saint Mary's will play the tournament's opening game against Northeastern on Dec. 22 at noon PST.
The field includes the College of Charleston, Hawai'i, Northeastern, Saint Mary's, SMU, UNLV, USC and Western Michigan.
The event will include 12 games through three days and will be telecast on ESPN2 and ESPNU.
