Freshman Kenny Mansfield was the subject of an article in the Union Democrat in Sonora about his transformation from a shy teenager who grew up on welfare to an academically successful student who won numerous scholarships.

Mansfield is a politics major at Saint Mary's and hopes to someday work for an overseas organization involved in human rights or helping the less fortunate, according to the story.
