Introducing Tom Bruce '67
The Saint Mary's College Alumni Association Board of Directors has elected Tom Bruce to serve as president for a one-year term starting in May. Bruce replaces outgoing two-term president Michael Boele '72.
Bruce was born in Missouri and grew up along the eastern seaboard, from Boston to Virginia to Key West, because his father was a naval aviator. In 1962, the family moved to California, and Bruce graduated from Bishop High School in Santa Barbara.
Bruce, his wife Mary, and two sons, Matt and Andy, live in Martinez, near several former classmates.
Inclusion & Collaboration
With the most beautiful campus in the West, Saint Mary's provides not only a bucolic setting for students and alumni, but a deeper experience stemming from the relationships developed and nurtured during, and since, our time as students.
When we listen to many of our current students, as well as graduates, we develop a sense that our alumni association must represent the true diversity of the "patchwork quilt" of past backgrounds, cultures, and ambitions each of us has in our Saint Mary's community. We should aim to be all inclusive of each other and form a collaborative team of Gaels, proud of who we are and where we come from.
We are all stewards of our College, and I look forward to leading our alumni into this coming year and towards the College's 150th anniversary. Together, we will forge a partnership of positive energy to fulfill the College's mission.
