Event Description 

What: Digitizing the American Mind: Reflections on technology, education and democracy in the 21st Century. How has the unparalleled rise in technology in the 21st century created a dramatic paradigm shift in all facets of public and private life? In his talk, Professor Ed Tywoniak will explore questions of personal privacy, technical versus liberal education, citizen journalism and the possible long-term effect these convergent technologies will have on the great American experiment in democracy.

About our speaker : Professor Ed Tywoniak (class of '75), joined the Saint Mary's faculty in 1978, is past chair of the department of Communication, and currently holds the title of Faculty Fellow for Curriculum and Technology. Professor Tywoniak has been the recipient of many awards, including the Alumni Association De La Salle Award for excellence in teaching and scholarship. He has written extensively on a broad array of topics including a recently published co-authored textbook entitled "Communication and Social Understanding" (Kendall Hunt, 2009).
