Hey Gaels! My name is Jacqueline. As a junior here at SMC, I can understand the need we all have to keep active in fun ways outside of our studies. Ever since I can remember, I've been outside participating in sports, which has become incorporated into my college life as well. As a Kinesiology major, I know the basics of how to keep a fit and healthy lifestyle, and as someone who loves to be social I am always looking for a way to incorporate as many people into this fun lifestyle! Since simply going to the gym can start to get boring, I'm here to help you all brainstorm different ways to be active on campus and have a great time while you're doing it. With my Rec Sports Guide to a Fit and Fun College Experience, I can help you blow off some steam from all the stressors of college life and stay healthy and fit throughout the year. The chilly winter weather has finally hit! No more laying around outside in the warm air; blankets, hot cocoa, and heaters have now taken over. As we enter the middle of November and find our way closer to the holidays, we need to find ways to keep our bodies warm! Instead of going out and buying new blankets and sweaters, we should all be taking the cheap route and getting in some exercise with Rec Sports! This is certainly what the girls’ club soccer team did yesterday. A giant Congratulations! is due to the women’s soccer club team who recently finished their fall season with a 6-2-1 record. They won their most recent game on November 12 against Chico state with a score of 6-2 to end their season. With our girls tearing it up on the field in the cold, there is no reason why we should not all be taking their example and getting active!

            This week Rec Sports offers the usual fitness classes. Tuesdays there is stretching at 8pm in Sichel 102. Wednesdays offer trail running with Sarah at 4pm at the flagpole, and Zumba at 7:30 in Sichel 102. The weekly hoops and indoor soccer in Madigan gym are always offered during the week. This weekend we have a winter activity to enjoy. Rec Sports is having an ice skating night! This Saturday bring $5 to participate in ice-skating and bring out those winter scarves and hats and enjoy the cold weather! After ice-skating we have the women’s club volleyball tournament Sunday morning. The tournament is at Cal Berkeley at 7am. For those of you early birds, be sure to get up bright and early and cheer on our Gaels!

            Hopefully everyone is able to get in some good Rec Sports time this week before we all leave to go home for Thanksgiving. Be sure to get in all the exercise you can to make up for all the wonderful food we are inevitably going to eat copious amounts of! With everything Rec Sports has to offer, I hope everyone takes full advantage of it. De-stress yourself before you leave for home so you can really enjoy your break. I hope everyone enjoys their last full week at SMC before leaving for home. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
