Some of us are restless when we see suffering in the world; we want to work—side by side with those in need—to help people become their best selves. We commit to careers in education, public service and social justice and we strive to collaborate with communities of need in hopes of contributing to the enhancement of everyone's overall quality of life.
Our Mission: To prepare students through a social justice framework to be leaders who address critical challenges of our times.
Justice, Community and Leadership (JCL) is an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes issues of equity and social responsibility. Our social justice framework uses multiple empirical and theoretical perspectives and contemporary pedagogies of community engagement to inspire lifelong leadership and service for the common good, especially in education, law, government and advocacy. This program serves as the primary course of study for students pursuing careers in education and non-profit or community advocacy work.
(Prior to May 2014, this program was known as Liberal & Civic Studies.)
