Loan Forgiveness Programs

Additional Financial aid is available in the form of loan forgiveness programs:

APLE Loan Forgiveness Program is available to teaching credential candidates and provides for the cancellation of up to $19,000 in outstanding educational loans in exchange for 4 consecutive years of full-time teaching in K-12 in selected California schools. Applications are normally available at www.csac.ca.gov. However, per the passage of the most recent state budget, no new applications will be accepted for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Stafford Loan Forgiveness Program for Teachers is intended to encourage individuals to enter and remain in the teaching profession. Under this program, you may receive up to $17,500 if you teach 5 consecutive academic years in schools or educational service agencies that serve low-income families, and meet other requirements.
Income-Based Repayment (IBR) is a new way to make your federal student loan payments more manageable. And as a teacher or public servant, you may qualify for a new type of public service loan forgiveness after 10 years of eligible payments and employment.
National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment is loan forgiveness for primary care clinicians in exchange for working in underserved communities
