• Dr. Raina León Inducted Into The Hall of Fame!

    Dr. León (SSTE Program), Assistant Professor recently was inducted into the Hall of Fame of West Philadelphia Catholic High School for her "accomplishments and commitment to the West Catholic and Lasallian ideals."

  • Dr. Gloria Sosa Selected as Counseling Journal's Distinguished Reviewer for 2012-13!

    Dr. Gloria Sosa was selected as the Journal of Humanistic Counseling (JHC)'s Distinguished Reviewer for 2012-2013. She has been a reviewer for JHC since 2009 and was recognized for her thought-provoking and helpful reviews. She will be receiving the award at the American Counseling Association National conference in March, 2013.

  • Dr. Sandra Mattar to Present at the 30th Annual Winter Roundtable

    Dr. Mattar will present a paper: "Infusing Social Justice and Advocacy in Counseling Courses: Pedagogical Reflections." at the 30th Annual Winter Roundtable to be held at Teachers College, Columbia University (New York).

  • Dr. Kathy Perez Presented at Learning Forward National Conference

    Dr. Perez presented "S.T.A.R.S.S.: Strategies for Teaching Active Reading to Struggling Students" at the Learning Forward National Conference in Boston, MA in December 2012.

  • Dr. Kathleen Taylor Co-Presented Professional Development at the Center to Advance Education for Adults

    Drs. Kathleen Taylor (EdD program) and Annalee Lamoreaux (SOLA) recently presented a faculty development workshop on "Mentoring with the Adult Brain in Mind" for the Center to Advance Education for Adults (CAEA), at DePaul University (Chicago), December 10, 2012.

  • Dr. Sandra Mattar, Associate Dean, Interviewed on Univision

    Dr. Sandra Mattar, Associate Dean, was recently interviewed on Univision for her expertise and recommendations for addressing issues of trauma and post traumatic stress disorder in educational institutions following the Sandy Hook Elementary school tragedy (more information in linked article).

  • Dr. Gloria Sosa Presented at the Western Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors Regional Conference

    Dr. Gloria Sosa presented a session on "School Discipline Policies and Cultural Competency: Asking the Tough Questions" at the Regional Conference in Portland, Oregon on November 16th. Dr. Sosa also co-presented with Dr. Laura Heid and Vanessa Touset, GCP student, a session titled "Identifying the Skills, Academic Assets, and Personal and Professional Challenges of Bilingual Students."

  • Dr. Kathy Perez Presented at the 3rd World Conference on Learning, Teaching and Educational Leadership

    Dr. Kathy Perez presented a paper on "Leadership for Learning and Instruction" in Brussels, Belgium in October 2012. This paper was also published in Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences Journal.

  • Drs. Alter, Sosa, and Thomas Co-Present at NorCal California Association of School Counselors Conference

    Drs. Gloria Sosa (GCP) and Peter Alter (Ed Spec.), and Addie Ellis, lecturer, and Stacie McGraw, GCP student, presented at the California Association of School Counselors (CASC) conference in November. This was the 2nd Northern California CASC conference, held at Stanford University. Dr. Suzy Thomas served as the Co-chair of the conference.

  • Dr. Raina Leon to Present at the 2013 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Meeting

    Dr. Raina Leon and Whitnee Garrett, SSTE student, will co-present a paper: "'Glee' As Case Study: Preparing Pre-Service Teacher To Intervene In Bullying" at the 2013 AERA meeting to be held in San Francisco, CA.

  • Jim Burcio selected for participation in National Endowment for the Arts Grant

    Jim Burcio, Program Director, ELP Tier 1, was selected to promote the original American art form of decoy carving at the Ward Museum. It is the second time he has been requested to assist in a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant funded exhibit. Decoy carving is the only original art form that is indigenous to America.

  • Counseling Student Patricia Murillo Awarded McDaniel Scholarship

    Dr. Suzy Thomas (shown in photo with Murillo) announced that School Counseling student, Patricia Murillo received the McDaniel Scholarship award for her collaborative action research study on first-generation Latino/a students in an urban charter school. She presented the study's findings at the award ceremony recently held at Stanford University.

  • Dr. Kathy Perez to Present at the World Conference in Belgium

    Dr. Perez will present a paper on "Transforming School Cultures through Teacher Leadership" at the World Conference on Learning, Teaching and Educational Leadership to be held in Brussels, Belguim on October 25 - 28.

  • Dr. Kathy Perez Presents in Ghana, West Africa

    Dr. Kathy Perez presented a paper entitled: "The Changing Perspectives on Teacher Education and Leadership Development" at the International Council on Education of Teaching (ICET) Conference.

  • Dr. Gloria Sosa Awarded the Faculty Technology Grant

    We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gloria Sosa was awarded the Faculty Technology Grant. She will be designing a virtual format through SecondLife to train counselors in the Graduate Counseling Program.

  • SMC Recognizes KSOE's Placement Coordinator for 20 Years of Dedicated Service

    Katherine Crane was recognized for dedicated service to the Multiple Subject Teacher Education Program (MSTE). The program mentions that "Kathy Crane is the face of SMC both public and private. We are so grateful to her for her excellent work on behalf of our program."

    The KSOE is pleased to announce that Dr. Kathleen Taylor (Ed.D. Program) has been invited to present at a seminar at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC - Mid June.

  • Dr. Kathleen Taylor Receives Fulbright Award

    Congratulations to Dr. Kathleen Taylor, professor in the Ed.D in Educational Leadership program. She will lecture and do research in Athens, Greece in 2013, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
