Saint Mary’s College rests on a foundation of nearly 350 years of Lasallian tradition in education. Saint John Baptist de La Salle (1651-1719), the Patron Saint of teachers, founded the Christian Brothers in 1694. Today, more than 73,000 lay colleagues, teach over 900,000 students in 80 countries worldwide. John Baptist de La Salle was a pioneer in education for the poor through his founding of training colleges for teachers, reform schools for delinquents, technical schools, and secondary schools for modern languages, arts, and sciences.
