“Founded in Reims, France in 1680, by St. John Baptist de La Salle, the Brothers of the Christian Schools are the largest order of religious Brothers in the Roman Catholic Church, and are dedicated exclusively to education, particularly of the poor and disadvantaged.
The Brothers aided by thousands of Lasallian partners, carry the vision of their Founder to hundreds of education-related works in over 80 countries throughout the world. This world-wide community of Brothers, numbering about 6600 today, is headquartered in Rome, Italy.
one of 11 regions of the worldwide Institute, the United States/Toronto Region is made up of 6 Districts and the Delegation of Toronto. These Brothers serve in 30 states in the United States, in Toronto, and in the international missions of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the University of Bethlehem in the Mideast. They are assisted by more than 5,000 partners in 121 institutions where they work with nearly 80, 000 students.
The Conference of Christian Brothers, located in Landover, Maryland, serves the leadership of these Districts and Delegation. It provides programs and services to all those involved in the mission of De La Salle in this part of the world.”
