HIP (High-Impact Programs) ELF (1 position): SMC and CILSA are working on an exciting new partnership with St. Martin de Porres School in Oakland. This is a three-year project with the Bonner Foundation to create service-learning classes that provide direct service to school children at the school during the day and to their families in after-school and evening programs.  CILSA is dedicating an Engaged Learning Facilitator (ELF) to work with SMC faculty and school staff to develop and coordinate project activities.  This role and responsibility includes participating in a four-day strategic planning retreat at Siena College in Albany, New York Monday, June 25-Saturday, June 30, 2012. The ELF has an exciting opportunity to be a meaningful member of a planning team of professionals to build a new program from the ground up. Students in good academic standing from any major are encouraged to apply. Prior experience working with children and/or families in school settings is highly desirable.

Liberal & Civic Studies Program ELF (1 position): This ELF is assigned to support the social justice education and community engagement work of the Liberal & Civic Studies Program. The ELF provides direct course support to all L&CS service-learning and social justice courses, serving as a liaison with this program’s community partners and as a resource to its students and faculty. Providing program support is also part of this role, including assisting with the planning of social justice education events (panel presentations), L&CS-specific community partner gatherings, and other tasks that promote community engagement efforts. This ELF is formally supervised by the CILSA Coordinator of Engaged Teaching and Learning and also reports to and works with Monica Fitzgerald, L&CS Assistant Professor. All Liberal & Civic Studies students who are committed to service and social justice and interested in working with faculty, community partners, and students are encouraged to apply.
