What: The conference is based around the theme: Head, Heart, & Hands: Engage for Change and is dedicated to bringing together and inspiring student leaders from the bay area and beyond. Through interactive workshops and networking opportunities the conference attendees will be provided the tools to become agents of positive social change on campus and in their communities. Who:As a part of the 10th anniversary, the Catholic Institute or Lasallian Social Action (CILSA) of Saint Mary's College will serve as the host.
Two keynote speakers will be featured: Wayne Meisel is the President of The Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation, which supports leadership and community service programs at over 75 colleges and universities across the country. He was a John Harvard Scholar for the highest academic achievement and as a John Finley Traveling Fellow, Wayne walked from Maine to Washington to champion student and campus involvement in community service.
Raj Jayadev is the founder of Silicon Valley De-Bug which strives to empower under-served communities by educating them on how to use tools to share their voice/opinion and make a difference in their community. Raj has been named by Utne Reader as one of "Thirty Visionaries under Thirty" and has won a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship.
Schedule & Details:
Friday, October 16, 2009. Participants traveling from more than an hour and a half away will have the option to arrive at SMC the evening before the conference. SMC students will host these participants. An evening social for the early arrivals is planned.
