Saint Mary's LEAP program for professional dancers was featured in a special report on KTVU-Channel 2 that aired on the 10 p.m. newscast. Reporter Bob MacKenzie visited three LEAP seminar classes, as well as rehearsals at the San Francisco Ballet to see what dancers do when they are not studying.
Currently fourteen LEAP students are members of the company. Principal dancer Damian Smith commented that LEAP gives dancers "an opportunity to exercise our minds, instead of just our bodies." Also featured in the segment were LEAP students Maurya Kerr (Lines Ballet) and David Strobbe (Smuin Ballet).
MacKenzie concluded that LEAP enables students, through its Bachelor of Arts degree program, to go on to other careers once they retire from professional dancing.
