SMC Forensics

Macken Collegiate Forensics supports SMC's competitive debate and speech team, and it is named in honor of its founder and benefactor, John Macken. Support is provided in collaboration with SMC, Joe Siler (working with Atsuko Kawahara to establish the Kurt W. Simon Trust), and other generous contributors.

We welcome students with competitive experience from all academic disciplines to apply for team membership where they can continue to develop ethical and socially responsible public communication based on in-depth public policy analysis.

Interested in appllying to join the team?

The Macken Debate & Speech team is continuing to accept applications for our team.  Experienced competitors are encouraged to apply to travel and compete for their school. Last year the team earned 4-year Tournament Sweepstakes, 4-year Debate Tournament Sweepstakes, Tournament Top Speaker, advanced a team to elimination rounds at the National Parliamentary Debate Association National Tournament and National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence, and team member Carmen Terlaje was elected the national student representative for the National Parliamentary Debate Association.  Contact [email protected] with specific inquiries.
