Being an English major has benefitted me tremendously. During my last semester and right after graduation, I worked at Smart Business Magazine in San Francisco. When the magazine lost funding, I worked in public relations as a Community Outreach Coordinator, writing press releases and fact sheets that were circulated in local East Bay neighborhoods.
Both these jobs helped me to determine that while I greatly enjoyed the creative aspect of my work, I was more interested in doing something that didn't involve sitting at a desk all day. I finally decided to move back to the Sacramento area and begin my career as an English Teacher. It is in this field where I feel I can use my Saint Mary's training the most.
