Candidates admitted into this program will be selected on the following criteria:

  • Audition in performance and choreography
  • Professional experience in the field
  • Undergraduate degree in dance or equivalent coursework with a 3.0 g.p.a. overall and in upper division dance courses
  • Professional goals which can be supported through the plan of study
  • Completion of all application materials

MFA applicants must complete the following prerequisite courses in order to be considered for the MFA degree; these undergraduate courses are normally contained in an undergraduate BA or BFA in Dance. All candidates who have not completed the prerequisite coursework will be admitted into the program on conditional status.  Removal of the conditional status will occur after all prerequisite work has been completed.  MFA Candidates may fulfill prerequisite requirements while completing graduate courses with the exception of advanced technique. All prerequisite courses fulfilled at Saint Mary’s or other institutions must be taken for a letter grade.
