About 135 people from Christian Brothers schools in the District of San Francisco are gathering at Saint Mary's College of California from July 30 to August 4 for the Assembly on Mission 2006.
The Assembly will examine many facets of the Lasallian education mission. Sessions are planned on such topics as "Influences of Young People Today," "International Independence," "Lasallian Formation of Adults" and "Lasallian Initiatives at Saint Mary"s College."
Assembly delegates will identify priorities for the district's mission over the next four years. Priorities that are affirmed will be sent to the 12th District Chapter, which is meeting in fall and winter 2006. The District Leadership and District Mission Council will then a craft a District Action Plan for 2007-2011.
Assembly delegates include Christian Brothers, members of the District Leadership Team, District Mission Council and District Council, presidents and principals of schools and others.
The district's first Assembly on Mission was in 2002. The priorities that were set then were outlined in the 2003-2007 action plan. They included creating new schools for the poor, making existing schools more accessible to the poor, prioritizing service-learning and creating connections between Saint Mary's College and district schools.
