De La Salle Week 2013
“Signum Fidei” has been chosen as the theme for De La Salle Week 2013 for several reasons. The phrase "Signum Fidei" is the motto of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. This motto was a part of the original seal of the Institute, which goes back to the 1751 General Chapter. The motto "Signum Fidei" recalls the fundamental virtue from which De La Salle wanted to draw the spirit which should drive the Brothers of the Christian Schools: the "Sign of Faith."
The theme also resonates with us today, as it can be seen as an inspiration for modern day Lasallians. The work of the Lasallian mission - service to and education of the poor, stemming from a faith-based foundation - flows out of our faith in God. We are called to be "Signum Fidei" for others, a true sign of faith for the world to see. This is the call of all Lasallians: Christian Brothers, students, faculty, staff, administration, and families.
