Supervised Teaching Placements
Overview

Each candidate must successfully complete 2 supervised teaching assignments at 2 different grade levels (K–2, 3–5, 6–8) in public schools. The field experiences cover all phases of the K–8 school year at a public school and cover a full grading period. The Supervised Teaching II placement must qualify as low performing and/or hard to staff and include ethnically and linguistically diverse learners. Placements are made in collaboration with the Field Experience Coordinator, candidate, principal and program director. A college supervisor from the Kalmanovitz School of Education visits the school regularly to confer with the master teacher and candidate.
Before candidates can register for Supervised Teaching II, they must pass CBEST, complete the subject matter competence requirement (e.g. CSET)and demonstrate competency in the Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs), and pass the Performance Assessment for California Teachers (PACT).
