The School of Economics and Business adminsitration is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Tomas Gomez-Arias as Associate Dean of Faculty and Research for the School of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA), effective July 1, 2012.
Tomas will work with department chairs and program directors in developing and maintaining school-wide teaching schedules to achieve an efficient and effective deployment of faculty consistent with SEBA's mission, programs needs and AACSB standards. He will also analyze faculty needs and develop hiring plans, assist department chairs and program directors in the process of recruiting both full-time and part-time faculty, and oversee SEBA's overall faculty recruitment activities as well as faculty orientation, training and mentoring. In coordination with department chairs and program directors, Tomas will perform evaluations of part-time and adjunct faculty. Working with SEBA Faculty Development Committee (FDC), he will initiate and evaluate faculty research and development programs to maintain a quality faculty that meets AACSB standards and achieves the missions of the College and School.
Tomas is currently Professor of Marketing and Global Business and Director of the Center for the Regional Economy, where he has been instrumental in raising the public profile of the school via events and funded research opportunities. He has also served Saint Mary's as senator and Chair of the Academic Senate, Chair of the Committee on Committees and Co-Chair of the College Committee for Inclusive Excellence. He is a member of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee and was a member of the Academic Blueprint and Hiring for Mission task forces. He is on the editorial board of the European Journal of Innovation Management and the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Series. His work has been published in the European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, International Journal of Bank Marketing, Management Decision, Journal of International Business and Economy, Journal of Business and Economics and Journal of Consumer Marketing.
Before joining Saint Mary's, Tomas was an Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of A Coruña, Spain, where he was also Director of its MBA and Masters in Entrepreneurship and Management Programs, and Leader of the Marketing Group. He also served as Chief Trade Officer at the Consulate General of Spain in Hong Kong and was the founder of Ivvid Consulting. He holds a Ph.D. and a Licenciatura in Business Science from the University of Leon, Spain, and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
