Brother Charles Hilken, FSC, chair of the Saint Mary’s College History Department, has just published “Memory and Community in Medieval Southern Italy: The History, Chapter Book, and Necrology of Santa Maria del Gualdo Mazzocca.”The book is a study of Santa Maria del Gualdo Mazzocca, a Benedictine priory, and then abbey, directly dependent upon the papacy, that offers a remarkable glimpse into the nature of monastic life in the middle ages.
