May 01, 2008Saint Mary’s College Names New Vice President for Development
For Immediate ReleaseMORAGA, Calif. (May 1, 2008) – Keith E. Brant, Ph.D., has been appointed as the new Vice President for Development at Saint Mary's College of California. He assumes the position on July 15, 2008.
Brant was chosen to lead Saint Mary’s development team following a nationwide search for a senior development officer with a proven track record in comprehensive capital campaigns.
“I look forward to working with Keith as we prepare to launch a campaign leading up to Saint Mary’s College’s sesquicentennial in 2013,” said College President Brother Ronald Gallagher. “I am confident that his leadership will enable us to meet our fund-raising objectives.”
Brant has 23 years of experience in higher education with a strong background in capital campaigns, donor stewardship and alumni relations. In his most recent position as Vice Chancellor for External Relations at the University of California, San Diego and as President of the UC San Diego Alumni Foundation, Brant ensured the successful completion of a $1 billion capital campaign.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Saint Mary’s family and the greater Moraga community”, Brant said. “I am looking forward to working with Brother Ronald, colleagues across campus, and alumni and friends in expanding support for the College."
From 1995 to 2006, Brant served as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations at UCLA and as Executive Director of the UCLA Alumni Association. He played a key role in planning and executing a 10-year, $3.1 billion campaign. In addition, as CEO for one of the nation’s largest and most demographically diverse alumni associations, Brant tripled the association’s assets over a 10-year period. Previously, from 1984 to 1995, Brant was Director of Alumni and Student Programs for the UCLA Alumni Association.
Brant received a doctorate and a master’s degree in higher education as well as a bachelor’s degree in film and television from UCLA. His publications include several books and articles for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) about alumni relations and student leadership training. He currently serves on the CASE Board of Trustees.
Brant replaces Brother Stanislaus Sobczyk, FSC, who has served as interim Vice President for Advancement since July 2005 after stepping down as president of Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. Sobczyk will take a sabbatical next year before pursuing other leadership opportunities in higher education.
