May 19, 2008Elizabeth Smith Named Assistant Vice President for College Communications
For Immediate ReleaseMORAGA, Calif. (May 19, 2008) – Elizabeth Smith has been appointed Assistant Vice President for College Communications at Saint Mary's College of California. She begins work on June 23, 2008.
Smith has extensive experience in digital communication, donor relations and integrated marketing communications. She comes to Saint Mary’s College from the University of California at Davis, where she has been the Director of Marketing Communications since 2005. At Davis, Smith was responsible for implementing an integrated marketing plan, providing communications support for the institution’s first-ever comprehensive fund-raising campaign and leading development of a university wide social media strategy.
Previously, she was Director of Donor Relations for Northwestern University from 2004 to 2005, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Northwestern Alumni Association from 2001 to 2004 and Manager of Corporate Communications at First Data Corp. from 1996 to 1999.
“I look forward to Elizabeth’s leadership of our wide-ranging communication efforts at Saint Mary’s College,” said Michael Beseda, Vice President for College Communications and Vice Provost for Enrollment. “Her experience in higher education has prepared her well for effectively communicating with our campus community, alumni, friends of the college, prospective students and other important audiences.”
Smith holds an M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications from the Medill School at Northwestern University and a B.A. in Journalism from Auburn University, where she also served as editor–in-chief of The Auburn Plainsman student newspaper.
