The Jan. 29 New York Times examined how head coach Randy Bennett has turned Saint Mary's into a magnet for Australian basketball talent, including five players on this year's team and three more on the way next year.“The basketball community is small over there,” Bennett told the Times. “They all know one another. We got in there early, and they’ve had success and good news travels fast.”
The Jan. 29 USA Today ran a story about the Gaels' attempt to break Gonzaga's streak of eight consecutive West Coast Conference regular-season titles.
"We're finally at a level where we're neck and neck with (Gonzaga)," senior forward Ian O'Leary told the paper. "Hopefully we can push past them."
