An event commemorating the 1959 LIFE magazine photo of 22 Saint Mary's College students crammed inside a telephone booth garnered national and international news. Good Morning America, the Associated Press, NPR and newspapers and broadcasters from every major market in the U.S. covered the golden anniversary celebration at Saint Mary's. At the event, alumni who participated in the original 1959 stunt and former LIFE magazine photographer Joe Munroe were cheered by hundreds. A group of current SMC students battled to best the alumni record but settled for a tie, matching the number of phone booth occupants set 50 years earlier.
