April 17, 2009Sophomore Point Guard Patrick Mills Declares for NBA Draft
Men's basketball point guard Patrick Mills announced late April 16 that he is entering his name into the June 26 NBA draft, but he is not hiring an agent. That means he can test the waters and still return to play at Saint Mary's next season if he decides to withdraw before the June 15 deadline.Mills, who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics on the Australian team, averaged a team-leading 18.4 points per game this season, helping the Gaels post a school record 28 wins. The Australian native missed nine games after breaking his hand on Jan. 28 in a game against Gonzaga, but he still was named to the West Coast Conference First Team.
In a teleconference with Basketball Australia, Mills said entering the draft without hiring an agent is "a win-win situation for me. If I don't get all the feedback that I want or need, I come back for my third year."
