September 18, 2009CILSA's 10th Anniversary Year Garners Coverage by the Catholic Voice
The Catholic Voice profiles SMC's Catholic Institute for Lasallian Social Action (CILSA) in recognition of its 10-year anniversary. The newspaper of the Oakland Archdiocese interviews Marshall Welch, director of CILSA, about the academic center's focus of promoting community service and social justice education that resonates with mission of Saint Mary's College.The paper also interviews Megan Colla, '08 and Lindsay Ryberg, '08. Prior to graduating, the two SMC students received a mini-grant from CILSA to create Just Hearts, a nonprofit organization that markets fair trade products from poor artisans in Nicaragua, Thailand and Uganda.
