Gael Glimpses, 1990-1999


1999

Andrew Heywood spent five years living and working in Japan since leaving SMC. He was married four years ago to Mizuki, and they moved to California. He works for Google as a corporate engineering recruiter supporting the Tokyo, Mountain View and YouTube offices.
 Christo Reynen and Brianne Butler ’99, who never dated in college although they were very fond of each other, are engaged to be married. They live in Los Angeles where Christo is an artist and Brianne works in commercial real estate for CBRE.
M. Ann Tran moved to Brazil to teach first grade at the American School of Brasilia after five years of teaching in the U.S. She looks forward to learning Portuguese and exploring Brazilian culture.


1998

 Heather (Bassett) celebrated her fifth anniversary with her husband, Jared Barnard, in September. They are the proud parents of Edward, 4, Eden, 2 and Ellison, born in June. A live-in au pair from Germany joined them in August for one year. Heather is a stay-at-home mother and works from home for a university and her own business, www.rainydaymemories.com.
Rebecca Eggert and her husband, Michael Avina, relocated from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Bern, Switzerland. Rebecca works at the U.S. Embassy in Bern for the ambassador and deputy chief of mission to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
 Christian Faulkenberry-Miranda and Mark Miranda ’96 ECR ’99 welcomed daughter Lola Reed on March 21; son Noah loves being a big brother. Christian finished her pediatric residency in 2007 and works for UCSF–Fresno on the pediatric faculty. Mark teaches adapted physical education in Kerman (Fresno County).
Heather (Hewitt) married Patrick Justison, who graduated from Lehigh University and the University of Texas, Austin, on Oct. 7, 2006. They are moving back to the Bay Area from Austin, and Heather is a staff accountant at Hewitt, Jones & Fitch in San Ramon.
 Erika James EE was the keynote speaker for the Women Plastic Surgeon’s Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. Her topic was “Women Taking Control: A Financial Prescription for Retirement.” Erika has her own business, Full Circle Financial and Insurance Services, in Martinez.
 David Lanier EE retired in July from the Fremont Police Department after 30½ years in law enforcement. He had last been a lieutenant, working as watch commander, field training manager and other roles. The department has contracted him to be a project manager for a major overhaul of its communications system. In October, he and his wife, Jan, celebrated their 30th anniversary.
 Dana (Lasater) Von Holten and her husband, Alan, welcomed their first child, Brady Alan, on May 16.
Gina McCray left the University of Phoenix to begin a new career in ministry as community life director in the Student Ministries Department of her church, Abundant Life Christian Fellowship.
 Dana (McMahon) Kotarba left the accounting firm of KPMG LLP after 10 years to start as a senior manager at Gallina LLP in Walnut Creek. She is very excited to be closer to home and to spend more time with her husband, Ryan ’98, and her two boys, Derek, 5, and Calvin, 2. They live in Lafayette.
Stephen Shea lives in Walnut Creek with his wife, Holly, and their 2-year-old daughter, Kennedy.
Simon Wong is in his fifth year with the Barry S. Slatt Mortgage Company in Burlingame as a commercial loan originator.


1997

Tim Aboudara EE MBA ’01 is a sales manager in Santa Rosa for E-Myth Worldwide, which provides business coaching services and online training. He completed his 34th year as a counselor for the American Legion California Boys’ State Program, serving as the assistant chief counselor for the last five years.
 Laura (Kennedy) Kelly and her husband, Padraic, welcomed their third child, on May 20. Crosby joins brother, Colin, 6, and sister, Bridget, 3, at home in Piedmont.
 Jose Mendoza is married to Gloria and they have three beautiful daughters, Desiree, 11, Autumn, 5 and Jayda, 19 months. He has taught Spanish for 10 years and is an assistant principal at Monache High School in Porterville (Tulare County).
 Bill Wambach MBA ’00 and Leslie (Dana) ’96 brought home their son, Diego Dana Wambach, from Guatemala on Sept. 24, 2007. Bill is a portfolio manager at BlackRock in San Francisco. After teaching high school for nine years, Leslie is a full-time mother. The family lives in Berkeley.


1996

Tanya Boyce earned a master’s in urban planning from Hunter College at the City University of New York. After four years of sticky summers and brutal winters, she returned to the Bay Area in 2000 and worked as a city planner in various cities. She is now an urban economic analyst for Oakland’s redevelopment agency. Her daughter, Reetah Nzingah, is in seventh grade at the Julia Morgan School for Girls.
 Marc Dominguez ECR ’04 MC ’05 married Molleen Dupree on June 20 in Oakland. They met while they were working at SMC from 2004 to 2006. In attendance were Michelle Batista ’02, Courtney Carmignani ’05 ML ’07, Angelica Garcia ’97, Maria Capitelli ’98, Steve Dominguez ’03, Vince Dominguez, Rob Walters ’96, Tim McAndrews ’96, Jennifer Mullin EMC ’05 and Patricia Cross EMA ’98. Marc is a counselor at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland. Molleen teaches religious studies at Holy Names High School in Oakland. They live in San Leandro.
Anna (Gonzalez) ECR ’03 and her husband, Jesse Ortega ’94, have three sons and live in Brentwood. Anna has taught at Freedom High School for nine years. As bilingual coordinator, she helped establish a Spanish for Native Speakers program and ran a Latinos Unidos club. Many of her students have gone to college, including SMC. She received her master’s in administration and administrative credential in August.
Monika (Larsson) Caltagirone and her husband, Steve ’95, live in Danville with their sons Vince, 4½, and Gianni, 3. Steve works in San Francisco and Monika is a stay-at-home mom. They will celebrate their 11th anniversary in November.
Jennifer Lechner lives in Danville with her children, Gabriel, 9½, and Jalyn, 7½. She is a special education teacher.
 Lisa Moore, assistant vice president of development at Saint Mary’s, was traveling with an SMC group in Ireland during the summer when they ran into Kerry Egan ’94 at Ashford Castle. The SMC group was singing “The Bells of Saint Mary’s” when they found Kerry in the castle’s Dungeon Bar.


1995

Theresa Brennan ML ’05 is director of business development at Truxtun Radiology Medical Group. She previously was marketing director for Medical Imaging Center of Bakersfield, which was acquired by Truxtun Radiology. She is on the board of directors of the American Red Cross’ Kern County chapter.
 Genevieve (Del Rosario) and husband, Ian McDermott, welcomed their second daughter, Lily Joan, on April 25. Their daughter Allison Grace is 2. Genevieve lives in Poulsbo, Wash., and works at home as a project editor for Axzo Press.
 Barbara (Giel) Verhey MBA retired from British Airways
and is now in real estate in Hilton Head Island, S.C. She married Bob, has four grandchildren, plays golf and took up ballroom dancing. She would love to hear how all her classmates are doing.
Kenneth “KC” Estenson is leaving Disney to become the senior vice president and general manager of CNN.com. He was the vice president of digital media for Disney-ABC Cable Networks Group.
 Katie (McCaffrey) Talbott lives in San Francisco with her husband of four years, Dan. After 10 years in the film industry, she is a personal assistant in the Bay Area. Although she has no kids or pets yet, Katie has a slightly intense relationship with her TiVo.
Aaron Nelson has written his first graphic novella, Marlow, which came out in September through Arcana Comics.
Juan Nunez lives in Auburn, Wash., and teaches and coaches at Auburn Riverside High School.
Richard Treff EE is owner and center director of the Sylvan Learning Center in Brentwood, which serves eastern Contra Costa County.


1994

Stephanie Boston spent 10 years in law enforcement before deciding eventually to pursue a paralegal degree and to work in criminal law. Stephanie is an independent criminal investigator on the defense side of the law and does legal research and writing for the Federal Defenders Office’s habeas corpus unit.
 Jason Damaschino, shown with former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz, works for Pacific Wine & Spirits in San Francisco representing the Moët-Hennessy and Diageo portfolios.
 Kathy (Voss) and Mike Bliss ’94 celebrated their daughter Hayden’s third birthday with friends from SMC. (She was asleep in the car and missed the picture.) Kids belong to John ’94 and Julie (Heckendorn) ’94 Connolly, Mike ’94 and Shelli (Wade) ’94 Murphy, and Sean McElwee ’94.
Jill (Wilson) Broadhurst wants everyone to know that the Class of 1994 is alive and swinging on Facebook. Classmates can sign on to be connected.


1993

Melinda A. (Camarillo) Quilici gave birth to Maya Julianna, sister to Kyle William, 6.
 Kiersten Crowley became a high school English teacher after earning her teaching credential from SMC in 1997. She married Maurice Brunt in 2000 and is now on “sabbatical” while raising their son, Liam, 4, and daughter, Hayden, 2. The family lives in Folsom.
Damien Fairbairn successfully donated a kidney to his mother, Tina Fairbairn, in April at Stanford Hospital. Both Tina and Damien are recovering nicely and are back at work, and Damien is even playing golf again. He has worked as senior technology analyst for Franklin Templeton Investments in San Mateo since 2005.
 Ray Lenci and wife, Marcia, have two daughters, Sofia, 5, and Talia, 3. They live in El Dorado Hills where they own and operate an online costume business called www.dizguise.com.


1992

Robb Rugg MBA works for ProBuild Holdings Inc. in Denver, overseeing all strategic activities for ProBuild’s gypsum business. He and his wife, Chris, thought the time was right for a move because they’re soon to be empty nesters as their twin daughters started at the University of Arizona this fall.
Robert Smith lives in Castro Valley with his wife, Sue (VonQuerner) ’91. They have two children, Drew, 8, and Stephanie, 5. Robert works in Oakland for the Center for Independent Rehabilitative Services, providing custom orthoses and prosthetics. He was in the news last year for donating a custom prosthesis to a 7-year-old boy from Gaza.


1991

 Larry Berger EE is building folk art furniture using recycled wood and other recycled material. His website is www.intothewoodsstudio.com.
Christopher Maricle ME was a Catholic school principal and assistant superintendent until 2006. He is now a governance consultant for the California School Boards Association. His first book, The Jesus Priorities: 8 Essential Habits, was published by Upper Room Books in October 2007. Christopher lives with his wife and two children among the grapevines in Lodi.
David McCullough is enjoying his 17th year at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, where he has worn many hats. He is now a pre-kindergarten teacher, enrichment director and camp director. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married for nine years and have a beautiful daughter, Samara, 3.


1990

 John Arena lives in Pleasanton and found a love for cycling in 2002. He toured New Zealand in 2007 by bike and planned to ride in the MS 150 Waves to Wine in September. He has been in the mobile phone industry since 1998 and is now global manager of Motorola’s developer technical services organization.
 Melinda Moros EE has published an eBook, What Every Parent NEEDS TO KNOW about College Funding and Financial Aid before Their First Child is Five Years Old. Melinda works with National College Funding Strategies and IMS Financial Services in college and retirement planning.
