Gael Glimpses, 1980-1989


1989

 Peter Caraher is a part-time stay-at-home dad for his two boys, Michael and Liam, while his wife, Lee, brings home the bacon. They went to Wisconsin for the summer to enjoy the family, golf and good Midwestern living. They watched the Gaels play Cal in the rugby semifinals.
 Brian Kinion MBA '96 is working at SuccessFactors in San Mateo as vice president and controller. He remarried in September 2006 and lives in San Francisco with his wife, Amy, and three dogs. He has two children, Zachary, 14, and Hayley, 10. Brian was the 2008 Man of the Year with the Greater Bay Area Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Brian is an avid runner, completing six marathons and training for a seventh in October.

Janine Ogando and her husband, John, welcomed son John Augustine Martinez into the world on Jan. 3, 2008. Janine has been elected SMC Alumni Association president.

Carolyn West EE is an associate with Horton & Roberts LLP in Oakland, certified as a legal specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law by the California bar's Board of Legal Specialization.


1988

Christopher Bauer lives in San Francisco with his wife, Christy, and daughter, Molly. He is a television producer for KQED (Northern California Public Broadcasting). This year he received an Emmy for his work on the science, environment and nature series, “Quest.”
 William Day EMBA retired as managing consultant for electric distribution planning for PG&E's system and consulted extensively in the Republic of Armenia and India helping to restore electric service, reorganize the energy ministry and develop options for electric system privatization. SMC's organization and human behavior courses were invaluable. Since his second retirement, he has gone on short-term trips to Africa, American Samoa and England, and will continue these as long as his body permits.
 Brian Hensley was stopped while fishing the eastern Sierra by Nick Cala '86, asking for directions to a good fishing hole. Brian directed Nick, whom he had never met before, to a sure spot for fish because Nick was wearing an SMC sweatshirt. The location is secret to all but SMC alumni.
Scott Wilkinson is married and has three lovely children ages 9, 8 and 5. He lives in San Francisco and still loves soccer, playing on a very good over-40 club. He quit his job selling software two years ago to pursue his lifelong dream of working with children. His Kids Outdoor Club, featured on Channel 7's “View from the Bay,” was voted as best children's program in Northern California. The camp, which is based out of his office in Golden Gate Park, has more than 60 kids per day.


1987

Sylvia (Bilbao) Poduska lives in Martinez with her husband, Gary. She founded Corporate Solutions in 1989, a technology recruiting firm. She and Gary love wine tasting, trips to Lake Tahoe and being on their boat.
 Susan (Gallicano) Norton is married and has three children: Conner, 13, Cambria, 10, and Caden, almost 4. Susan teaches second grade for the Manteca Unified School District and lives in Ripon.
 Jeanette (Gura) Morelli and her husband, Glenn, celebrated the birth of their son, John Joseph (Jack), on May 5, 2008. The Morellis live in Santa Rosa.
 Mary Jean Duran was appointed to the executive editorial board of the Business Journal of Hispanic Research.
Darryl Jung is vice president/wealth management financial advisor with Smith Barney in Honolulu. He is married to Joanne and has a son named Conner, 2½.
Sue (Pieraccini) Curry is a glass artisan whose company, Mama Jewels, recently released its latest collection of fused dichroic glass jewelry, including pendants, earrings, rings and wine charms. From her studio in San Ramon, Sue takes from her Italian and Native American heritage and pays homage to her grandmothers with the creation of jewelry art that classifies the intrigue and characteristics of both women — colorful and strong. Laurie (Profilio) Sass was promoted in May 2007 to senior vice president, e-commerce marketing, at Bank of America. She started working at Bank of America in 1997. Laurie and her husband, Brandon, have two children Kaitlyn, 9, and Brandon, 6.


1986

Steve Becker moved with his family over the summer from New Jersey to Boston. He is vice president of commercial operations for RainDance Technologies; a provider of innovative microdroplet-based solutions for human health and disease research. RainDance's initial application will focus on the targeted re-sequencing of the human genome. Gaels in the Boston area can call Steve at his new office in Lexington, Mass., (781) 861-6300.
 Joey Bilotta has academic-year soccer boarding school venues in Italy, Spain, France, England, Mexico and Brazil. His corporation, EduKick, Inc. opened in 2001 and has evolved from international language-immersion soccer camps to year-long academic soccer boarding schools. In 2007, Bilotta's company welcomed more than 250 young athletes from 54 countries. Bilotta lives outside Toronto with his Canadian wife of 10 years, Natalie, and his two lovely daughters, Talia Bianca, 9, and Noemi Sienna, 4.
 Maureen (Butler) Eastman celebrated her 20th anniversary with Brent '85, whom she met at SMC during a two-week trip to Europe. They have five children: Amanda, 18, Sam, 14, Cammie, 10, and twins Ben and Brent Jr.,6. Maureen and Brent started their own business in 2004, Brent Eastman Insurance Services Inc, with Brent as president and Maureen as CFO.
 Robert Dillow MBA is a private wealth manager at Sagemark Consulting, part of the Lincoln Financial Group. He was named 2007 Planner of the Year for Lincoln National's Pacific Regional Group, chosen from a group of more than 80 financial planners. He has been married to Merrie for 19 years and they live in Danville with their two high school son, both nearing completion of Boy Scout Eagle rank. Bob is a Boy Scout leader and volunteers in church leadership activities, most recently building homes in Mississippi and Mexico over Easter break.
John Fanucchi celebrated his 12th anniversary at Bank of America in San Francisco while working as a regulatory compliance manager and assistant secretary to the board of directors. In April, he was promoted to senior vice president and senior compliance manager.
Sara Morabito EE fulfilled a lifetime desire by earning her college degree. She is a mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother. After retiring from General Electric, she remains involved in volunteer services. Her latest effort was transcribing minutes of the History Club of Los Gatos from 1903–1960 onto disks for the club and for the Los Gatos Town Library. It took four years, with 612,552 words inputted. The presentation of the archives in January was covered by the Los Gatos Weekly Times on January 8.


1985

Dave Archer EMBA '85, CEO of Nevada's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, co-founded the Reno Angels, which invests in early-stage companies in the Reno-Tahoe area.
Janet (Banducci) Amador ME '93 ended 22 years of employment at SMC in June. She will miss all the people there, but she has found a wonderful new job as director of admissions and operations for the Undergraduate Business Program at the Haas School of Business at Berkeley.
Richard S. Hollingsworth MS '88 became a radiological technologist in 1973. Since 1981, he has served as director of radiology at San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center.
Spencer Quam EMBA is in Johannesburg with wife, Magali, and three young kids, managing expansion of the Sasol Mozambique Gas Project, supplying gas to the coal-to-liquids plant (for clean diesel) and to power-supply projects (we have rolling blackouts). Lovely, exciting and dangerous at the same time.


1984

Vallery (Benoit) Morton is an auditor at UCF in Orlando. Her oldest child, Katie, 16, was a varsity cheerleader this year and traveled to Minnesota for an intensive dance camp this past summer. Hank, 11, plays premiere soccer and flag football. Vallery's husband, Steve, is an elementary PE teachery.


1983


Louis A. Lotorto, Jr. appeared in South Coast Repertory Theatre's production of "Taking Steps" in Costa Mesa from May 16 through June 15.
Bruce MacMahon worked as a U.S. Department of Energy auditor in the San Francisco office and relocated to Boise in 1985 in a tax-accounting position for Boise Cascade (BC). He married Valerie in 1985. In 1996, he joined Idaho Power as its tax director and spent the next 12 years working in related jobs in the company. Bruce and Valerie have five children, ages 10 to 20, and live in Boise.
Jodie (Prola) Russi is an eighth-grade teacher and vice-principal at Saint Mary's Elementary School in Walnut Creek. She is helping to introduce the Jefferson Awards Youth Service Initiative in Bay Area high schools to promote volunteerism. Jodie recently returned to her cheerleading roots at SMC when she helped judge the cheerleading and dance team tryouts in April. She lives in Lafayette with her husband, Jack, and four children: Lauren, Alli, Chris and Melissa.


1982

Mike Conway is the public address announcer for the Stockton Ports minor league baseball team (an affiliate of the Oakland A's). His day job is with Budget Fleet Sales in Livermore, and he stays active in triathlons. He did the Hawaii Ironman in 2001 and 2004 and the Ironman Florida in 2005. Mike lives in Tracy.
Mona Lisa Long Ricard has been married for 23 years to husband, Ron, and has three children: Elise, Cathryn and Joe. She is a second grade teacher at Sequoia Elementary in Pleasant Hill, in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.


1981

 David Pava MBA is full-time vice president of sales and marketing for MarCole Interactive Systems. He has taught undergraduate courses for three colleges for the last 10 years, including Saint Mary's. David teaches for Chabot College in Hayward and at various Bay Area locations of the University of Phoenix. David is an antique automobile hobbyist and president of the Bay Area Horseless Carriage Club; he is restoring a 1909 Ford and owns a 1936 Packard.
 


1980

Garrett “Gary” Baker is vice president and regional manager for business banking at Comerica Bank in San Mateo County. Garrett is a San Mateo native and 22-year banking veteran. He previously managed banking groups in New York, Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia.

Maria (Bruno) Gavidia lives in San Mateo and works for the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District as a school psychologist. She is interim principal at Cipriani Elementary in Belmont for the 2008–09 school year. Her daughter, Claudia, 21, will be a senior at UC Irvine and her son, Giancarlo, 15, is a sophomore at Serra High School. Maria's husband, Dagoberto, is celebrating 20 years as a social worker for San Mateo County's Human Services Agency. The Gavidias have two older cocker spaniels, Buddy and Peaches.

Scott Killie reports his daughter, Kristen Killie graduated from Highland High School in Warrenton, Va. and will attend Roanoke College.

Antonella (Toni) Fiorenza celebrated six years in business in June at her European-style café, Toni's Courtyard Café, in Merced. The café has won awards for best caterer, best breakfast and lunch in Merced County and best small business. If you are on your way to visit Sonora, Mariposa, Yosemite or Los Angeles, stop by and say hello.

Rich Dutra-St John and wife, Yvonne, celebrate their 20th anniversary and are going into their 21st year leading Challenge Day, diversity workshops for teens and adults in the U.S., Canada and other areas. Their work has been highlighted in two documentaries and featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
