Gaels in Wine Chapter Created

Gaels who are part of the wine industry have formed a new alumni chapter — Gaels in Wine — with plans to gather on a regular basis to share the fruit of the vine and swap insights on everything from making to marketing wine.
Bob Kozlowski '50, former cellarmaster at Kenwood Winery and the driving force behind the chapter, announced its formation at a picnic at Concannon Winery in Livermore on June 7. Some 22 alumni and friends attended the event hosted by Jim Concannon '53.
“This was a very successful event,” Kozlowski says. “The attendees were a good mix of older and younger alums; the 
conversations were lively. Everybody said that they had a good time and were looking forward to the next event.”
Concannon led a tour of the new barrel room, lab and bottling area and provided guests with a commemorative wine glass and a bottle of Petite Syrah. Most of the guests brought wine from either wineries they are associated with or from their personal cellars.
Wayne Phillips '62 brought a memorable bottle of 1983 Sauterne from the renowned Chateau d'Yquem, whose website describes the vintage as having the flavors of “honey, jam, caramel and marzipan” and says it is “unquestionably one of the finest wines of the decade.”
Kozlowski brought his own 1983 Kenwood Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc adding 
“softness to the wine and an added degree of complexity to its flavors,” according to that winery's website.
The Gaels in Wine chapter, which as of mid-June had about 40 members, also met before the Summer Wine Festival on Aug. 10.
