| George Dini lives in San Leandro with wife, Edna. He retired in 1984 as Oakland’s deputy city manager. He remembers hitching a train ride from the campus to 40th and Broadway in Oakland. George played on the 1944 football team with a perfect record — they lost them all. He remembers the bus driven by Mayor Sanborn from Oakland to the campus during the war years, and painting the “Big C” at Cal red in 1945. As student body vice president, he lived in “Splinters Hall” during 1944 and graduated with the very small Class of 1946 after having been tutored by campus legends Hagerty and LeFevre. |
