| Robert Anderson obtained a commission in the U.S. Naval Reserve after Saint Mary’s and went on active duty in Washington, D.C. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he returned to San Francisco where he worked for a year for his father-in-law at the Larraburu French Bakery. He then launched upon a 32-year career at Saint Mary’s College High School, Berkeley. Before retiring in 1994, he taught English, Spanish, history and physical education while serving for 20 years as athletic director. He also served terms as dean of students and dean of student activities. He even obtained a school bus driver and driver instructor certificate enabling him to drive the school bus and to train other drivers. He also continued his affiliation with the U.S. Naval Reserve at Treasure Island and retired as a commander. He has two sons, a daughter and eight grandchildren. He resides in the Berkeley hills on the same property that his grandparents settled in 1898! Although Bob suffered kidney failure in June 2007, he is undergoing hemodialysis and is looking forward to his 50th class reunion this summer. |
