2009

Kyle Bonderud is in a two-year master's of music program under classical guitarist Marc Teicholz at Cal State, East Bay.
 Elizabeth Cruz-Hurtado and her husband, Jose Luis, celebrated their first anniversary on Aug. 2. They live in Oakley. Alumni in attendance at their wedding were Lupe (Aguilera) Huffman '06, Amanda Long '08, Kandy (Elliot) Aldana '93, Nina Martinez '09 and Shannon Driskell '08. Elizabeth is pursuing her single-subject teaching credential at Cal State, East Bay, and fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a teacher in the district of her high school, Liberty Union High School District. She is teaching at Heritage High School in Brentwood.
Lindsey Saravia is studying dance in New York at the Ailey School in a yearlong independent study program that is part of its professional division. She was accepted after an audition in March.
Guillermo Trujillo is a paralegal in a child custody law firm in Albuquerque, N.M. He assists attorneys in preparing legal documents and presentations and meets with clients when attorneys are not available. Guillermo plans to attend law school in a year.


2008

Kathleen Cook EMBA spent the 4th of July weekend with Charlotte Hojnacki and Tony Kenck.
 Maritza Flores  (left) took over as director of operations for High Flying Foods restaurant group. She is taking ballet and piano lessons.
 Greg EMBA MS '08 and Jennifer Hojnacki EMBA '08 welcomed James Patrick nine months after graduating together. He was born April 17 and weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces.
 Jason Jones Ed.D.  is director of academic affairs at the University of Phoenix, responsible for overseeing seven department heads and 250 adjunct faculty members. The school has a sponsorship with the Oakland A's, and Jason was selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and attend the reunion for the 1989 World Series, where he met Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson.
Kyle Mickiewicz-O'Neil recently moved back to downtown Sacramento, where he has applied his business know-how with affordable housing developer St. Anton Partners. He has become a key member of the Active 20–30 Club #1 and supports SMC rugby by recruiting new players in the area.
Kelly Sue Rubert lives in Dublin and is web content editor at 101.7 KKIQ hometown radio station.
 Vanessa Snyder moved to the Mississippi delta, where she teaches elementary school and enjoys the fried food, Southern hospitality and bug spray available to those who visit the quiet beauty of the South.


2007

 Mikaila (Coats)  married Adam Riedel '06 on June 6 on the lawn overlooking the 18th green at Pebble Beach Golf Course, followed by a reception at the Beach Club. SMC alumni in attendance included Ryan Kennedy '05, Patrick Dooley '05, Sarah Potter '06, Leah Dancer '07, Natalie Boltz '08 and Mikaila's new sister-in-law, Anna (Riedel) Andersen '09.
  Kate (Lasisz) Michaels married in June in Cabo San Lucas. She is a senior technical writer at a company in San Francisco. She lives with her husband and their dog Corona in Mountain View.


2006

Kimberly "Kiki" Beach  completed her second marathon, Seattle's Inaugural Rock and Roll Marathon, on June 27. She lives in Santa Cruz and is a recruiting manager for @HIRE, assisting people with resume reviews and job searches.
Steven Bernier works at a law office as a senior paralegal and director of technology and is attending Concord Law School to earn a juris doctorate; he expects to graduate in 2012. Steven has a background in areospace engineering, computer science, real estate, accounting, marketing and business administration. He loves to fly light aircraft and play golf when time permits.
Antonette Bolla and Victoria  Hernandez '05 appreciate the wonderful friendships that they made at SMC. They and six other alumni friends traveled in June to Belize, where they explored bat caves, Mayan ruins, wildlife and the clear blue sea. The friends remain close by meeting weekly.
Michael Chin graduated last spring from Gonzaga School of Law and is preparing for the Washington State Bar Exam. In September, he began a year-long master's program in legal taxation at the University of Washington. Michael works with his father, Ronald Chin, at his law office in Lynnwood, Wash.
Heather Melgosa became engaged to Staff Sgt. Michael Higginbotham while vacationing at Disneyland on Valentine's Day. He proposed in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle in a dream come true. The wedding will be in June 2011.
 Francesca (Ortiz) Kapper  and her husband, Jeffrey, welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Vincent Ethan, on July 6. He weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 21¾ inches long.
 Briana Pierce  is engaged to Aaron Rawlinson, who proposed on Christmas evening 2008. They will be married in Folsom on June 12, 2010.


2005

Irene Batista works for the Workforce Development Department of Riverside County as a career resources consultant providing guidance to people who are unemployed or seeking new careers. She is obtaining a master's in leadership and organizational studies from Azusa Pacific University and will graduate in May 2010.
Kelli (Cook) and Ryan Mahoney '06 were married in the Chapel on Sept. 9, 2006, with the reception in the Soda Center. Kelli and Ryan were just blessed with the birth of daughter McKayla Christine on May 22. 
Carrie  R. D'Andrea left in May for 27 months with the Peace Corps as a municipal services developer in Paraguay. She previously worked for Stanford University in the Graduate School of Education as an administrative assistant and assistant researcher in the Ph.D. program.
 Benjamin Gelbaum received a master's of business administration from CSU, Stanislaus, and married Tiffany Marie Darling on June 28, 2008. Dreaming of someday being a great golfer means he lives near inexpensive yet challenging golf courses and records golf television on his DVR. His goals include having three or four children of principle, intelligence and athletic superiority.
 Maddie Hudgins  and Dan Olson were married on Oct. 11, 2008, at the Hacienda de las Flores in Moraga. The wedding party included Natalie Hudgins '06, Patrick Hudgins '09, Katie Koontz ME ECR '06, Erin Munson ‘05, Krista Werner MC '08 and Sara James '05. The couple honeymooned in Maui before moving to Sydney, Australia.
 Erik Johnson  married Andrea Kvemshagen on June 6 in Banff National Park in Canada. After honeymooning in Paris, they returned to Sacramento, where they recently bought a home. Erik works for the Sacramento Area Council of Governments and is pursuing a master's degree in public policy and administration at CSU, Sacramento. Andrea is a director of rehabilitation in Carmichael.
 Gregory Kavulich married his wife, Shalini, on July 8, 2007, at St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach; the reception was at Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes.  Alumni in the wedding party included Clint Wilson '04 and Chris Hamlin '04. Andre Coleman '04 attended. Gregory and Shalini celebrated the birth of daughter Skylar Maya on Oct. 20, 2006. They bought a beautiful home in August 2008 in Torrance. Greg is a leasing agent for Douglas Emmett Management in Santa Monica.
Katie McKay graduated from Creighton Dental School in May 2009 and moved back home to Seattle to start her career near her family.
 Jennifer Merlo took first place in the Ocean Blue Adventure Race in Half Moon Bay on July 11. She completed a 4-mile trail run, 2-mile ocean kayak, and 8-mile mountain bike trek in just under three hours. Jennifer competed again at Folsom Lake in August.
Claudia Williams graduated from McGeorge School of Law with distinction in May. Upon successful completion of the California State Bar Exam, she hopes to practice law in Walnut Creek.


2004

Mallie (Bendinelli) and Andrew Dowdell were wed on Nov. 1, 2008, at the Church of our Lady in Manannah, Minn. Caroline King '04 ME ECR '05, Elisabeth Jacobsen, Natalia Chiapa '05 ECR '06 and Rosie Hoffman flew out to join in the celebration. Mallie and Andy honeymooned in Tennessee.
Ryan Campeau graduated May 2009 from Western University of Health Sciences with a doctorate degree in physical therapy.
 Julie (Levie) and David Bower '06 had their first child, Edward Lawrence, on Aug. 13. Julie is working toward her Ph.D. at UC Davis, doing research on soil organic matter after briefly working as a field chemist. David was an auditor with KPMG for 22 months and now works for his father, learning to run various family businesses. They live in Davis with their two border collies and love to work on their house and garden.
 Lyndsey Tennant recently moved to the Fort Worth area of Texas to pursue a teaching career, taking along her dog Sally May and her boyfriend, Reid Bartlam. She invites visitors to the area to stop by for a glass of wine and some SMC talk.
 Vanessa (Vicondoa) Knightly and her husband, Colin, were married on Aug. 2, 2008 in the Chapel. Vanessa is a portfolio trader and Colin is the new head coach of the SMC men's lacrosse team. The couple lives in Walnut Creek.


2003

 Joanna (Castle) and Eric Bowden '03 are happily married and live in Orange County with their 18-month-old daughter Peyton and dog Roxy. Joanna is a school psychologist and Eric is a regional manager for Luxottica Retail. Eric is pursuing a master's in school counseling.
 Vicky (Cheung) married Jason Furnish on April 28, 2009, at beautiful Makena Cove in Maui. After honeymooning in Maui, the couple returned to Bakersfield, where they have two adorable four-legged kids, Betsy, a French bulldog, and Rusty, a Jack Russell terrier.


2002

Michelle Batista formed a softball team called the Oakland Smoke, including alumni David Arden '04, Carrie Davis '96, Angelica (Beckman) Garcia '96, Chris Giangregorio '01, Kristen (Corbal) Giangregorio '03, Jenny Gosselin '06 ME ECR '07, Francisco (Ponch) Lopez '01, Kristina Lovato-Hermann '00, Mustafa Qarshi '03, Gabriel Welcher '02 MC '05 and Omar Zazueta '03. Many of these players were Lasallian Volunteers and/or work in our Lasallian community at SMC or De Marillac Academy in San Francisco. The Oakland Smoke was proud to finish up its first season with a record of 5–5–1.
Andrea Buob is engaged to marry Brent Cisneros. They plan to marry in April 2010 in Maui in a Catholic ceremony.
Melissa Dawn (Donovan) and Randy Gabler were married on June 5 at Edgewood Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe. Melissa was joined by Gina (Gosalvez) Chance, Marci Traylor, Sara (Kennedy) Ogando, Melissa (Donovan) Gabler, Ana (Mestas) Cardenas and Allyson Wiley. Melissa and Randy live in northern Nevada.
Amy Ghilieri married Marc Markwell on Dec. 31, 2008, in Reno, Nev. She is completing her graduate degree in history and teaches core humanities at the University of Nevada, Reno.
 David Lindgren and Kerry Thomas are engaged to be married on June 12, 2010.
 Nick Luppino and Lesley (McPherson) '03 welcomed their first child in May, daughter Sophia. Nick still teaches in Sacramento, and Lesley is a stay-at-home mom.
Kristy (McNutt) Sedlacek and her husband, Joe, welcome their second child, Maddox Joseph, on May 19. His big sister Gianna is now 2. The family moved into their home in in Ely, Nev., in March 2008.
Leslie Pieracci MC '05 passed her second licensing exam and is now a licensed marriage and family therapist. She looks forward to starting her own private practice.
 Beth (Woisin) Pagliuca and her husband, Michael, welcomed their first child, Vincent Michael, on Oct. 4, 2008.  Rachel (Neustadter) '02 and Carlos Mino '02 are Vincent's godparents. Beth graduated in May from the University of New Hampshire with a master's in English. She teaches high school English.


2001

 Leslie (Crouse) married Joshua Alli Ranoa on Sept. 20, 2008, at Montevina Winery in Plymouth (Amador County). Angel (Hernandez) Johnson '01, Kiersten Daniel '01, Sari (Cortez) Canales '01, and Raquel Lopez '02 were bridesmaids and her brother, Matt Crouse '04, was a groomsmen. Leslie and Joshua are enjoying married life while keeping their shoes safe from dogs Keani and Dempsey.
 Tiffany Denman received a master's in English from UC Davis in June. She lives in Elk Grove (Sacramento County) with her children, Porter, 7, and Gillian, 5.

Marisa Ochotorena was engaged to Mark Mauer while on vacation in Maui to celebrate her 30th birthday. They plan a summer 2010 wedding at her parent's home in Covina.


2000

 Kendi (Botts) Merlo ECR '02 '07 and her husband, Gary, welcomed their first son Max Garrison, born on April 21 in Chico. Max weighed a whopping 9 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 21 inches long.
Ravi Kolla received his Ph.D. from UC San Diego in 2006. He is a project manager at a nonprofit research institute in La Jolla, where he is working on vaccine discovery against a variety of global infectious agents. Ravi is working toward his project management professional certification. He enjoys travel (recently returned from New Zealand), photography, soccer and music. Ravi's band, $2 Stallion, still works hard to help the youth of America appreciate the best of classic and glam rock, see www.2dollarstallion.weebly.com.
Heather (Shepherd) Gwinup and James were married in Saint Helena in August 2003. After James completed law school and passed the bar exam, they settled in El Dorado Hills, near Sacramento. Heather worked for various educational services for several years, most recently as a district trainer for Sylvan Learning Centers. On Oct. 5, 2008, the Gwinups welcomed their son, Jameson Barrett. He is the light of their lives.
