1979

John & Roberta (Corning) Kravitz have been married 26 years and are the proud parents of three grown children — Teryn, Benjamin and Megan. John works for State Compensation Insurance Fund, managing the Fairfield call center, and Roberta works as executive director for the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), a nonprofit professional association.

 


1978

Edward S. Calvo, whose name was mistakenly listed in the “In Memoriam” section of the Winter 2007 issue, is actually very much alive and well. He lives in Vacaville with his wife of 28 years, Nancy Vasquez Calvo ’79.
Monroe “Mickey” Dingott served as a judicial hearing officer for Maricopa County for 19 years (pro bono). He was appointed as a pro-tem judge for 2008 and as a municipal judge in the town of Paradise Valley, Ariz.
Ed Martin has fond memories of the many brilliant, dedicated and hard-working instructors at Saint Mary’s. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. in 1982 and has been practicing dentistry in San Ramon since 1983. He and his wife, Patty, have three wonderful daughters, pictured.

 


1977

David Riel MBA just published his third novel, Yolly Bolly, which is available through Amazon.com and at Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores.
Wendy (Myers) Noble welcomed her first grandchild, Lily Kate Waites, born to her daughter, Cecily, and son-in-law, Jason, on Oct. 17, 2007. The family is doing great and lives near Wendy in Loganville, Ga. Wendy proudly says that Lily is a beauty just like her mother.

 


1976

Shealagh (Donahue) Meehan says seven SMC families have 24 children who are classmates or graduates of Our Lady of Angels in Burlingame. For a Christmas card photo, a group gathered from the families of Kristy (Furrer) Crouch ’86, Diane (Biancalana) Dean ’90, Kathy (O’Rourke) Flynn ’85 and Kevin Flynn ’86, Patti (Wall) Merrigan ’84 and Shealagh (Donahue) Meehan ’76. Roberto Manalo married Kathryn Neale, and they have two sons, Xavier, 22, and Seve, 19. A former Gael four-year varsity tennis player, Roberto has gone on to have a career in tennis, teaching and coaching for more than 30 years. He is employed by the United States Tennis Association and is responsible for diversity matters along with sponsorship and fundraising. Earlier, he was in charge of all adult tennis programs in USTA Northern California.

 


1974

Barry Brynjulson had a 22-year career with Pacific Bell/SBC, and is now a golf professional at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville. He has also been varsity golf coach for Bentley in Lafayette for the past five seasons. His wife of 34 years, Michele Alsterlind Brynjulson ’75, is the principal at Valley View Elementary School in Pleasanton.
Wally Englert & Mary (Mecchi) ’75 are living this year in Rome while Wally is professor in charge at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies. They will return next summer to their home in Portland, Ore., where Wally is a professor of classics and humanities at Reed College, and Mary is a mental health therapist in private practice.

 


1972

Rich Curtola writes that St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School in Vallejo recently inducted four SMC alumni to their Hall of Fame. The Rev. Patrick LaBelle, O.P. ’61 (former SMC dean of students), Rich Curtola ’72, Greg Silva ’86 and Anthony Intintoli, Jr. EE ’82 were inducted based on “their positive influence to the world community, their good work and their dedication to the school.” Almost 400 of their friends and colleagues attended the dinner in their honor on the Vallejo campus.
Jeff Wright has finally started to “stress down” after 33 years in the wholesale and retail spirits industry. Since last February, he has worked in a supervisory capacity for Cache Creek Casino and Resort in the Capay Valley in Northern California. He and his wife, Ellie, celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary in October. They have a granddaughter, daughter of Annie and Chris Patno in Lakewood. Their son, Jack, works in Woodland-Summer House for mentally challenged adults. Their daughter, Sarah, is in her junior year as a history major at CSU–Long Beach. Jeff and Ellie have been in Woodland (Yolo County) for more than 29 years, and the house will be paid off next August.


1970

Daniel G. “Mel” Penny Jr. won his fourth NOVA Award, Lockheed Martin Corporation’s highest honor, for teamwork as he led the Warner Robins Field Office to new heights in the corporate business development field. Mel, a retired Air Force officer, has been at Warner Robins for one year. He is married to Charlotte, a high school teacher, and they have three children: Cheri, a high school teacher; Dan III, a senior software engineer and David, a high school teacher.
