2007

Mary Guese, who was an English major at the College, is now in medical school at the University of Colorado.
Staci Hamaguchi MA is SMC’s new coordinator of athletic promotions. A former Gaels softball player, Staci also served as a graduate assistant softball coach. She is charged with enhancing the game-day atmosphere and serving as the corporate sponsor liaison and special events coordinator.
Karen Reid is working on her master’s degree in public administration at UCLA in an accelerated program so she can move back to the Bay Area and work in San Francisco for the U.S. State Department. Living in Los Angeles has been a welcome challenge. She turned 22 in October and looks forward to working more with SMC when she moves back from Los Angeles.

 


 


2006

Mandy Bible, a three-time all-conference volleyball player, is assistant sports information director at Saint Mary’s. She helps write releases and media guides and handles game-day responsibilities for women’s basketball and volleyball.
Brenna Biggs is in her first season as a Raiderette. At Saint Mary’s, she graduated with a degree in child adolescent psychology. She was also a cheerleader, member of the Psi Chi Honor Society and on the Dean’s List. In addition to her work with the Raiders, Brenna works as a personal assistant for a real estate company while finishing prerequisites for medical school.
Silvia Jacobo has traveled to Australia, fulfilling a dream of skydiving in Cairns and scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. She began working at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay in August 2006 and was promoted to recreation coordinator in February 2007. In April 2007, on her 24th birthday, she purchased her first home in San Mateo with her mother’s help. She lives with three co-worker/roommates and is planning a trip to Israel and Egypt.
Allison Kop spent a year at the Santa Clara University School of Law and recently transferred to the eighth-ranked UC Berkeley School of Law. She has signed to be a summer associate with Gibson Dunn in San Francisco and will graduate in May 2009.
Jonathan Morales moved back to California after a year in New York City. He lives in Pleasanton and works at Bay Area News Group-East Bay as a copy editor/page designer and a freelance writer.
Jahmese Myres (pictured), Sandra Sanchez ’06, Casey Wilson ’06 and Adriana Rodriguez ’05 braved record-high temperatures to finish the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 7, 2007. They ran to raise money for the Lasallian Volunteers, which places recent college graduates in Christian Brothers’ schools and service agencies in low-income neighborhoods across the country. Jahmese, Casey, Sandra and Adriana are all current or recent Lasallian Volunteers. More than 100 Saint Mary’s alumni have served in the program as teachers, tutors, case managers, social workers, recreation leaders and coaches since 1988.
Ryan Powers works for Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates as the production data and compliance analyst for the Napa Valley.
Deanna Price teaches at the Brothers’ St. Joseph School in Nazareth, Ethiopia. She has several classes of 60 students or more and is eager to make a difference in any small way. She works toward long-term efficient teaching, where students and teachers can continue implementing strategies from this academic year.

 


2005

Jill Anderson ME earned a multiple subject credential from Saint Mary’s. After teaching fifth grade in Moraga, Jill moved back home to San Diego. Last year, she taught sixth grade and this year she teaches math, science, language arts and social studies in seventh grade. She ran the 2006 Rock ’n Roll Marathon in San Diego and plays on two indoor soccer teams.
Irene Batista works at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula (Riverside County) as an associate instructor for the Learning and Development Academy within the Talent Management Department. She teaches job and personal skills to employees to further their careers. In her spare time, Irene enjoys playing on the Pechanga softball team.
Sarah Burgess will be attending the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Regis University in Denver beginning in January 2008. She also works as an emergency medical technician for American Medical Response in Colorado.
Seth Hanson recently married his French girlfriend, Olivia. After an amazing honeymoon in Thailand, they moved to the French region of Provence near his wife’s family so he could pursue a career in viticulture through a mentorship with prominent French wine expert Jacques Seysses and the Domaine De Triennes Winery. Seth hopes to open his own winery one day.
Ruthe (Labowitz) Baez, who has a bachelor’s of performing arts, earned her multiple subject credential in May 2006 and is a third-grade teacher in Pittsburg. On June 3, 2006, she married Rudy Baez at the SMC Chapel.
Wendy (Lam) Tong MBA is married and has a beautiful baby. She has earned project management professional certification and works at Safeway, Inc., in I.T. project management. She loves seeing her infant when she gets home from work.
Liz Martinez is community development director at the YMCA of Orange. She enjoyed a Saint Mary’s Sunday in the country last year with her boyfriend Ryan Hawkins and saw high school and college friend Kristin Hurst ’05. Kristin is enjoying her first year in her own classroom teaching second grade. The three also got together to watch the Gaels beat San Diego State at the Wooden Classic in the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Kristin Nunnally was married on Oct. 20, 2007, and lives with her husband in a new condo in Campbell. Kristin is an internal communications specialist at VeriSign in Mountain View.
Jessica Porras completed her master’s degree in higher education leadership and policy studies at the University of Maryland, College Park and works as a residence director at Gonzaga University in Spokane.
Mary Volmer MFA married Chris Jones on June 16 on the patio outside the Soda Center. Mary, who teaches English at SMC, and Chris, a recently tenured associate professor of math, got to know each other well during resident director meetings at the College. Chris, affectionately known as “Jonesy,” is the resident director of Assumption Hall, and Mary is the unofficial RD and the honors coordinator.

 


 


2004

Pamela Abbott-Mouchou is following her dream to see the ocean every day by moving to Camarillo (Ventura County) where she and her husband purchased a home. She is seeking employment while developing a new business to facilitate balance and success using the principles of feng shui.
Megan (Bartleson) & Daniel Quinn ’04 were married on Aug. 26, 2006 in Scotia (Humboldt County). They live in the East Bay and purchased their first home. Dan is a logistics manager at CytoSport in Benicia. Megan works in public relations at DuDell & Associates in Oakland.
Leslie Crouse EE was engaged to Josh Ranoa at Story Winery on Nov. 17. Leslie and Josh are busy planning a fall 2008 wedding. Leslie Crouse EE '04.
Katie Davis MBA has been promoted from director of external relations to assistant athletic director for academic services in SMC’s Athletics Department. A former Gaels basketball standout, Katie has worked at the College since 2004, when she was hired as director of marketing and promotions. Katie recently was engaged to SMC men’s associate basketball coach Kyle Smith, and they will be married June 14 at the Lafayette Park Hotel.
Steve & Selena (Lucero) Petruzzi live in Omaha, where Selena teaches English as a second language at a small Catholic school and Steve is in his final year of dental school. They hope to settle in California.
Jessica Poole is in her second year of the doctor of physical therapy program at Duke University in North Carolina.
Mike Willens is an account manager for Aerotek, a professional staffing firm in San Ramon. He is in the scientific division working mainly with hospitals on their hiring needs.

 


2003

Denny Bulcao is back in his native San Diego, enjoying life away from the 9 to 5 as a freelance writer and keeping a close eye on SMC basketball news.
Kristen Corbal is engaged to marry Chris Giangregorio ’01 in
June 2008. They met while volunteering through the Lasallian Volunteer Program in New York and taught together at De La Salle Middle School in St. Louis. Chris now teaches at De Marillac Academy, a Christian Brothers School in San Francisco.

Hannah Levy Danto has been in the Peace Corps, stationed in the Republic of Kiribati, Central Pacific, since March 2005. In July 2005, she was placed on the island of Butaritari at the Anginibaiatoa Primary School. The teachers and their families live at the site, and Hannah has her own home among them. Her initial focus was co-teaching and consulting with the teachers. She and her island mates are also providing health education and teaching workshops for the villagers. Hannah’s service runs through May 2008.
Corinne C. Devin was crowned Ms. Nevada 2007. She competed for Ms. United States 2007 in August and finished in the top five. Corinne was born and raised in the Navy Dental Corp. She received her master’s with honors from University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine in 2007, and was awarded the Colgate Bright Smiles for a Brighter Future Award for her community service. Victoria Gilliana and fiancé Ben Siegel have relocated to Turlock, where she works for Progressive Insurance in Modesto. They will get married on Sept. 20, 2008.
Chris Harrell is coordinator of compliance and eligibility for Saint Mary’s Athletics Department. A former SMC running back, Chris has been a graduate assistant for the past three years working in Student Support Services. He will receive a master’s degree from SMC in counseling and his credential in pupil personal services.
Liz Schnitz has lived in Chicago for three years. Since receiving her master’s degree in social service administration from the University of Chicago in June, she has worked for Leyden Family Services as a group and individual therapist at a day program for people recovering from severe mental illness. Her experience in social justice efforts while at Saint Mary’s influences her desire to advocate for just policies affecting people with mental illness.
Nancy (Sundberg) Taves had her son William James Taves on Dec. 28, 2006. He was 9 pounds, 16 ounces. Nancy, her husband, Phil, and stepson, Alex, traveled to Germany and England last June.

 


2002

Linahla Bulatao moved from New York City in March 2007 to Dubai. She is a flight attendant for Emirates Airline and is having a blast traveling and meeting new people.
Bree Gunsworth Al-Rashid married her longtime love, Laeth Al-Rashid, on Puget Sound near Seattle in July 2007. They honeymooned in the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador in September and returned happily to their home and two cats in Seattle.
Andrika (Hawes) Stevens and husband, Jason, welcomed their firstborn son, Jason Jr., on July 12, 2007 at 10:20 a.m. Jason Jr. weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces and was 22½ inches long. The family is enjoying precious moments that are creating lifetime memories.
Sethi (Liebscher) Jacobson ECR and husband, Todd, taught in Oakland, San Leandro and Castro Valley schools before having their first child and moving to Bend, Ore. They enjoy the slower pace of life and live minutes from Mt. Bachelor where they ski in winter and hike the Cascade Lakes in summer. Daughter Ruby Reese is 3½ , and son Chase is 2. Todd teaches fourth grade in the Bend-LaPine School District and Sethi spends time at home with the kids and owns a small business creating educational craft kits for kids. Sethi is a proud Gael and represents Saint Mary’s on her license plate holder.
Veronica Martins and Kevin Monteiro were married July 30, 2006 in the Chapel. Father Tom McElligott oversaw the ceremony, and Tiffany Fox ’03 and Monika (Bock) Hayles ’03 were bridesmaids. Veronica and Kevin honeymooned in Italy
and Greece and returned home to Walnut Creek.
Lisa Medina received her master’s in occupational therapy from the University of Southern California in spring 2007 and completed an internship at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. She is working as a registered and licensed occupational therapist in the South San Francisco, Jefferson (Daly City) and San Mateo school districts.
Julie Payne earned an international MBA from the University of San Diego in September 2007 and works for Westfield as the assistant general manger of Parkway Plaza in El Cajon. She lives in downtown San Diego and spends weekends surfing, traveling and working on her up-and-coming website.
Diane Reboy ME has added new services to DLR Associates by being certified as a nurse life-care planner through the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners.
Amy Uyematsu was married on July 7, 2007 in Monterey to Scott Reams. Alums in attendance were Brian and Angel (Hernandez) Johnson ’01, Lloyd Schine ’98, Michael Maddan ’01 and his wife, Virginia. Amy and Scott honeymooned in French Polynesia. They met while working in San Francisco and have since moved to Scott’s home state of Utah where Amy works with Ernst and Young and Scott is an audit partner with a regional accounting firm.

 


2001

Melissa (Camilleri) Magliola teaches English at her alma mater, Casa Robles High School outside Sacramento, and is a student in Antioch University’s low-residency MFA program.
Nichole Cherry works at juvenile hall in Los Angeles and is studying for a license in clinical social work. She and a friend have opened a bridal boutique in South Pasadena and welcome referrals from any engaged person in the L.A. area.
Jim & Lisa (Garcia) Diecidue announce the birth of their daughter, Lauren Elise, last April. The Diecidues reside in Orange County, where Jim is a high-school Spanish teacher and Lisa teaches elementary special education. Jim & Lisa (Garcia) Diecidue '01.
Melinda Hatano EE, who works for the Department of Corrections in Sacramento, was promoted to special agent in charge of the Office of Internal Affairs, headquarters. She is blessed with a good team of supervisors who make her job easier. She passed her real estate license examination and will pursue her private investigators license and continue to look for other things to do after retiring later this year.
Jennifer (Isola) Wolf and her husband, Jeff, welcomed baby Logan Carl on July 20, 2007. He was 8 pounds, 7 ounces and 21 inches long. Logan is a very happy baby and is such a joy. Logan Carl Wolf.
Bob McDaniel & Tania (Kachmarsky ’02) McDaniel celebrated the birth of Claire Anne on April 13, 2007. The McDaniels live in Grass Valley (Nevada County) where Bob is a commercial construction lender and Tania is a first-grade teacher. Claire Anne McDaniel.
Shabi Shahryar lives in Los Angeles and is co-director of a high-fashion modeling agency in Beverly Hills called Bleu Model Management. The agency represents sought-after models and deals with leading American and European fashion interests, including prestigious fashion magazines and top advertising agencies. Shabi is single and enjoys the life of glitz and glamour that comes with traveling and scouting.

2000

Melissa (Bischalaney) Lizor married Brian on July 15, 2007 at the historic El Cortez in San Diego. Carolyn Hunter ’00 was one of her bridesmaids, and many close friends and family attended the wedding, including cousin Jon Hacker ’99. Melissa and Brian live in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. Andrew Denman will have a solo exhibition at Pacific Wildlife Galleries in Lafayette from April 12 to May 3. More than 20 of his new acrylic paintings featuring wildlife subjects will be on display. Andrew is a member of the Society of Animal Artists, the International Guild of Realism and Artists for Conservation.
Gabe Gomez MFA is the residency director at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Since graduating from Saint Mary’s, he has taught English at the University of New Orleans, Tulane University, the College of Santa Fe and the Institute of American Indian Arts. He is the music columnist for the Santa Fe Reporter and his first book of poetry, The Outer Bands, won the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize. It was published in 2007 by the University of Notre Dame Press.
Cara Hanks-Mathews works for KTVU/FOX2 in Oakland as the business development/Internet project specialist. She is engaged and plans to marry in September 2008.
Carolyn Hunter has worked for Tetra Tech EM Inc., an environmental consulting firm, for more than seven years as a community involvement manager. She recently received a commendation letter from her largest client, the U.S. Navy Base Realignment and Closure Office, for her dedication to the environmental cleanup program at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, Detachment Concord. She lives in Castro Valley and enjoys playing golf, taking scuba diving trips, riding a Harley and spending time with friends and family.

Iris Martin Lopez & Miguel Lopez ’01 congratulate their son, Isiah Martin Lopez, on his pre-school graduation. Isiah attends kindergarten at St. John’s Catholic School in San Francisco.
Cicely (Ochs) Rodda and her husband, Brian, welcomed a baby boy, Noah Brian Rodda, on Oct. 24, 2006. Cicely teaches first grade in Fairfield.
Stephanie Shrieve MS is Saint Mary’s assistant director of athletics for compliance. She returned to the College in 2006 after spending two years as associate athletic director at UC Irvine.
Whitney Woodruff traveled to Rwanda in April 2007, leading a group of health-care professionals to provide much needed care to 400 orphans. The El Shaddai orphans received dental and physical exams, a water filter and tons of hugs. While planning to return to Africa this next year, Whitney is working for a gastroenterology practice in San Diego. She graduated in 2006 from the University of San Diego with a master’s in nursing and is a board-certified family nurse practitioner.
