Each year U.S. institutions of higher education are asked to complete the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Surveys. Completion of the surveys is one requirement for participation in federal programs such as student grants and loans. Survey topics covered either annually or biennially include Institutional Characteristics, Degree Completions, Enrollment, Financial Resources, Staff and Faculty Salaries and Benefits, and Graduation Rates. The IPEDS Enrollment survey is recognized nationally as the standard by which institutions of higher education report enrollment figure.
