What in the world are tokens and what are they used for?

A token is the code that "tells" the form to display the what the user types into a particular field   For example, if you want your email to say "Dear Jack" instead of "Dear Student", you would use this token in the Email Template:

Dear [submission:values:first_name]

(first_name is the field key for First Name on my form.)

You can display the date with [current-date:long].  (No field key needed).

To display all the field label and values:  [submission:values]

How to insert a token in an email

  1. Place your cursor where you want the token in the email.  Then click TOKEN VALUES.  You will see a list of different types of tokens.

  2. You will see a list of frequently used tokens.  Click on the one you want.  It will be inserted where you placed your cursor above.  If there is a  "?" in the token, replace the "?" with the field key of the component.
  3. Some useful components:

To display the component label and value:
[submission:values:?]   Replace the "?" with the field key of the component.

To display the component value:
[submission:values:? :key]   Replace the "?" with the field key of the component.

To display the component value:
[submission:values:?:nolabel]  Replace the "?" with the field key of the component.

Here is an example. I want to display the value for my "First Name" field. The field key is  "first_name".

[submission:values:first_name:withlabel] will display the component label and value.
Example:First Name: Jack

[submission:values:first_name] will display: Jack

All label and fields [submission:values] Displays all the label and value of all the form fields.
Field value without label [submission:values:?] Displays the value of a specific field without the label. (Replace the "?" with field key)
Field label and value [submission:values:?:withlabel] Displays the label and value of a specific field. (Replace the "?" with field key)
Field Label Only [submission:values:?:label] Displays the label of a specific field without the value. (Replace the "?" with field key)
