With 17 NCAA Division 1 teams (including basketball, soccer, cross-country, softball, and baseball) fielded from 2,800 undergraduate students, athletics truly unifies our student body. Saint Mary's sends more than 300 Division 1 athletes to the field, course, court, track, and water to compete at the highest level as the only liberal arts college in the West Coast Conference.
The Club Sports Program is managed by Campus Recreation and offers students a highly competitive program in 13 different sports, including men's rugby, national champions for the past two years. Led by students, each team is registered and competes with local or national league affiliations.
The Intramural Sports Program offers a wide range of recreational sports and activities and encourages students to stay active regardless of skill level.
Housed in the newly opened state-of-the-art Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center, the Campus Recreation Department keeps the campus community in shape through its many programs—from fitness center classes like yoga and spinning, to the center's pool and climbing wall, to 13 club sports from rugby to water polo.
From providing a myriad of ways to exercise and gather plus more than 150 on-campus student jobs, the center has something for everyone. Open to all currently enrolled students at no cost, and to faculty and staff for a reasonable fee, our newly opened state-of-the-art fitness facility houses the Recreation and Club Sport programs for students. It also includes a pool, climbing wall, three indoor courts for basketball, soccer, and volleyball, a fitness center, and rooms for yoga, dance and spinning classes.
