Saint Mary's College requires that all full-time undergraduate students have sickness and accident insurance coverage. The Health & Wellness Center is pleased to inform you that we have contracted with Health Net to provide our Student Health Plan this year. This plan has been carefully designed for SMC students and assures maximum access to health care for an affordable cost. If you currently participate in an HMO with restricted out-of-network coverage, this plan will provide local health care access.  All students are automatically enrolled in the Saint Mary's negotiated health insurance plan.  Below is a summary of procedures for waiving the student health care plan for the 2012-13 academic year. The Plan coverage is effective August 1, 2012.

Whether you wish to waive or enroll in the Saint Mary's Plan, you should go online and complete the online enrollment/waiver "Paperwork."

The online waiver/enrollment form and information about the Plan is available at www.healthnet.com/saintmaryscollege beginning July 1, 2012.

Waiving Out of the Student Health Insurance Plan

In order to waive participation in the Health Net Student Health Plan, students must have comparable coverage through another insurance plan and complete the online waiver form. Waiving insurance for the fall semester will automatically waive insurance for the spring semester. The online waiver process opens on July 1, 2012 and closes on September 5th.

When you have completed a successful waiver, please print the confirmation page for your records.

Unless waived on-line, all registered students enrolled in the insurance at SMC taking 3 or more classes per semester will automatically be enrolled in the Plan and billed on their fall tuition statement. Please also ENROLL ONLINE, as instructed above, you will get your insurance card sooner. Once you are enrolled, the coverage cannot be cancelled for the academic year. The second installment is billed with your Spring tuition.

Plan cost

This insurance Plan costs $1,166 for coverage from August 1st, 2012 through July 31st, 2013. You will be charged $583 per semester on your student account if you do not complete the Online Waiver by the above-mentioned dates. No refunds will be made after the closure of the waiver process. Once you are enrolled, the coverage can not be cancelled.

The mandatory insurance requirement does not affect your access to the Health and Wellness Center services. All full time undergraduate students are eligible to use the Health and WellnessCenter at no charge regardless of their insurance coverage.

Services are available Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-4:30pm and on Friday from 9:30am-4:30pm. During these hours we encourage students to use the Health and WellnessCenter for their health care needs. For student athletes, please be aware this plan does not cover athletic injuries when playing intercollegiate sports.
