How are the Professional MBA and the Executive MBA Programs different? [back to top]
Executive MBA (EMBA) applicants must have a minimum of five years of managerial experience (three years for the Trans-Global EMBA). The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is not required for admission to the Executive MBA Program. Professional MBA applicants are required to take the GMAT. Professional MBA students are required to have two years of work experience. Most Professional MBA applicants work full-time, but not necessarily in a management position.
Class formats are different: Executive MBA students take classes in a lock-step format, with the same classmates in each course for the duration of the program. Executive MBA students have a choice of campus locations and program formats. EMBA students receive honors, pass, or fail grades. Professional MBA students choose the classes they will take each quarter. All classes are held on the Moraga campus in the evening or Saturdays. Students are graded using the traditional letter grade system. The Program Comparison Chart provides more information to help you choose the program that's best for you.
Is it best to apply early or later? [back to top]
It is to your advantage to apply as early as you are ready. We cap our class sizes at 30 students so when spaces become full we cannot accommodate additional enrollment. An early application ensures that you will receive a decision earlier. However, it is important not to rush your application. We encourage you to take the time necessary to submit a thoughtful, well-prepared application.
Are interviews required? [back to top]
Interviews are only required for our Executive MBA candidates. However, if candidates for our Professional MBA and MS in Financial Analysis and Investment Management (MS-FAIM) programs want to interview, they have the option to do so. Interviews are generally hosted every Thursday between 9am and 5pm. Candidates can schedule their interview prior to applying or wait for us to contact them after they have submitted their online application.
Is the GMAT or GRE required? If so, what are the minimum scores and GMAT averages? [back to top]
The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for the Professional MBA (PMBA) and may be required for the MS in Financial Analysis and Investment Management (MS-FAIM) and the MS in Accounting Program; the GMAT/GRE is not required for our Executive MBA Programs. The minimum GMAT requirement for PMBA and MS-FAIM is a total score of 500. For the GRE, we require a score equivalent to a minimum GMAT score of 500.
I have taken the GMAT and/or GRE several times. Which score does the admissions committee consider? [back to top]
The admissions committee takes into consideration your highest test score. If you have scored better on one test in the verbal section and better on the other in the quantitative section, we will consider your highest quantitative and highest verbal scores.
