A professor of politics, Ahmed's academic research focuses on the Middle East. He is also a leading authority on Islamic movements – in particular the Palestinian group Hamas.
He is able to speak broadly about politics in the Middle East, including the Arab spring, the situations in Egypt and Libya, the death of Osama Bin Laden and its impact on Al Queda, the political relationship between the U.S. and Pakistan and the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel.
Ahmed has written numerous articles about politics in the region and was a political scientist at Birzeit University near the West Bank city of Ramallah until mid-2006.
