Amy Vernetti has managed to balance being a stay-at-home mom with working by telecommuting – for a very long time. “Over the past 17 years, I have been able to work from home, be a part of my kids’ lives, while still enjoying significant career success,” she says. Vernetti is also a board member for Envision Schools, a nonprofit organization founded by a St. Mary’s alumnus that runs four public high schools in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods and helps children become first generation college students.

At Saint Mary’s, Vernetti played point guard for the women’s basketball team and she says Steve Nash, point guard of the Phoenix Suns, is a role model today. “His work ethic, determination, perseverance and leadership are truly inspiring.” She credits her Seminar classes with helping to hone her communication skills, and says she would tell young women that “the single most important skill you could develop for business is persuasive communication.”
