One hundred drawings, etchings, lithographs, photographs and woodcuts exploring biblical narratives and scriptural symbols by major Jewish and Christian artists of the modern era are included.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Saturday, Mar. 17, from 2 until 4 p.m., in the Gallery courtyard.
Among the featured artists are: Ben-Zion, Marc Chagall, Jean Charlot, Otto Dix, Fritz Eichenberg, Isac Friedlander, Rupert Garcia, Eric Gill, Chaim Gross, Rockwell Kent, Oskar Kokoschka, Kathe Kollwitz, Laura Lasworth, Fernand Leger, Georges Rouault, Roy Schmaltz, Frank Van Sloun, Sadeo Watanabe and William Wolff.
The exhibition includes works from the Hearst Art Gallery permanent collection of modern religious art, private collections and works on loan from Christians in the Visual Arts, a non-profit and non-sectarian organization of artists, art historians, museums, colleges and universities throughout the country.
