Each year, Saint Mary’s invites parents and families of current students to come to campus and reconnect with their long-lost progeny, and this year it got a huge response. About 800 people signed up for the weekend, up from about 300 last year, said Jennifer Herzog, director of New Student and Family Programs.
The weekend began on Friday, as the families joined in the activities planned for the inauguration of President James A. Donahue, and extended through Sunday.
Saturday was an especially event-packed day. The families enjoyed brunch with the new president, tours of the campus and the Legacy Garden, a volleyball match at McKeon Pavilion, a CILSA family service project and ice cream social, and a wine-and-cheese reception mixed with a bit of SMC history, hosted by Brother Dom, of course.
Also, for the first this year, a couple hundred hardy family members climbed the hill behind the campus to savor a box lunch at the Observatory and Cross.
Oh, and there were a few hugs along the way, too.
