This Jan term course is experiential and has students explore various wetlands.  The curriculum includes readings on water resources, lab activities on physical and biological characteristics of natural waters, and educational outreach projects.

The service learning component component of this experiential course has changed each time.

In 2008, the students collected limited creek survey information for Contra Costa County.  Since this was the first iteration of the course, the educational outreach component at a local elementary school was developed from initial concepts.  It was considered one of the more successful components of the course.

In 2009, the students collected a greater amount of creek survey information for  Contra Costa County.  As the second iteration of the course, the educational outreach component at a local elementary school was very well organized and delivered effectively.

In 2011, the students again collected a good amount of creek survey information for  Contra Costa County.  As the third iteration of the course, the educational outreach component at a local elementary school was very effectively delivered.  A new video component was added and subsequent iterations will use this technology.
