Saint Mary's College graduate business professor James Hawley was quoted in an article in the Sacramento Bee about changes on the board of the California Public Employees' Retirement System.
On the subject of a lawsuit over state rules cracking down on greenhouse exhaust from cars, Hawley, who has studied the issue, said automakers can't ignore such landmark rules because other nations are looking at similar standards.
"It's better to confront those costs earlier than later," Hawley said. "Long-term investors ... have to deal with the climate change. In the long run, they're going to have significant hits to their investments based on climate change risk."
