Women’s Club Volleyball is looking forward to the start of a great 2012-2013 season. Coming off of a solid foundation year, the team is feeling confident with what is to come. Women’s Club Volleyball is excitedly anticipating kicking off their season with their first tour nament on November 3rd at UC Davis. This tournament will be a good assessment for the team to see where they are at and where they need to build stronger skills in the remainder of their preseason practices. We’re expecting a big season for of our returning players: Koko Petitt, Kaylia Balinbin, Mallory Zaunius, and Kendall Carroll. Although there are a lot of strong returning players, Saint Mary’s Volleyball is excited to see what the freshman have to bring to the court. Volleyball player Veronica Weaver commented on the integration of the veterans and new players, saying “since the beginning of preseason training, the team has played really well together. Ladies of all ages and positions have been working hard together all towards achieving their common goal: a winning season”.
Currently, the women’s team is working on their defensive game, realizing that the simple act of passing can be the difference between a win or a loss in a close game. The team’s skills will be put to the test during their first home game versus the University of San Francisco on November 11th at 11 o’clock in Madigan Gym. Last year USF proved to be a formidable opponent but this year, the team feels more confident than ever before. Saint Mary’s has a strong pre-season schedule including 3 different tournaments and a couple of games. League games begin January 26th against University of the Pacific. Look to the schedule for a listing of all home games. The women’s volleyball team looks forward to a very fun and exciting year and they hope to share it with the Saint Mary’s community.
